JOB MISSION: As a key member of the Apparel Sample Room team, the Sample Maker II position plays a vital role in the creation of high-quality garment samples across a wide range of product categories. This position requires expert craftsmanship, attention to detail, and a commitment to upholding New Balance’s standards of excellence in apparel make and construction. The ideal candidate brings a strong understanding of apparel development processes, fabric behavior, and construction techniques that align with industry best practices and production realities.


MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITES:

  • Execute full-cycle garment construction—from cut fabric pieces to finished samples—using a variety of industrial sewing equipment with precision and efficiency.
  • Interpret and analyze technical packages (tech packs), ensuring all design specifications are met; document any discrepancies, deviations, or improvement suggestions based on industry standards and production feasibility.
  • Collaborate closely with Sample Room partners to prioritize tasks and meet timelines without compromising quality.
  • Identify and communicate potential issues related to materials, patterns, stitching, or construction that may impact prototyping or production. Proactively identify and communicate engineering options that can improve cost, quality, and efficiency.  Maintain a proactive approach to continuous improvement in processes, equipment usage, and product quality.
  • Adapt quickly to shifting priorities and urgent sample requests with flexibility and professionalism.
  • Ensure all machinery is clean and functioning properly. Follow ongoing machine maintenance protocols. Address any malfunctions or safety concerns immediately.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and collaborative workspace in accordance with safety and operational standards.

REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESS:

  • High School diploma or Technical High School certification required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in apparel sample making using industrial sewing machines, with advanced knowledge of garment construction techniques.
  • Expert in operating industrial sewing machines, including but not limited to: flatlock, coverstitch, lockstitch, bartack, and multi-needle.
  • Experience with advanced equipment such as seam sealing and ultrasonic machines is a strong plus.
  • Ability to create and engieneer patterns in CAD program is a plus. Skilled in working with stretch and spandex fabrics.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret English-language tech sketches and documentation.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset. Must be available to work onsite five days a week
  • Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and compliance requirements.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Sits for periods of time with continuous movements of hands, arms & fingers while sewing Able to lift 30 lbs on occasion (fabric rolls)

Boston, MA Headquarters - (NB) Only Pay Range: $30.00 - $30.00 - $30.00 Hourly (actual base pay varying based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, internal equity, geographic location, and more.)
