Summary of Job Duties:

The Research Assistant processes biological specimens, performs research experiments, analyzes data, and presents results to the investigator. This position will maintain appropriate records for research activities which may include equipment logs, experiment data, analysis documents, and any protocol deviations. The Research Assistant performs data management activities including filing documents, data entry, archiving documents, etc. This position will coordinate research trial activity including scheduling of tests, exams, or other experiments. The Research Assistant ensures that the integrity and quality of basic and translational research are maintained.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in biology, chemistry, or related scientific field plus three (3) years of research experience required.

  • Must feel comfortable and confident when handling hazardous substances: physical (sharps), biological (human tissue and fluids) and chemical (formaldehyde, dry ice and liquid nitrogen).   

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in biology, chemistry, or related scientific field.

  • Experience in histology laboratory or 3 years of clinical laboratory experience.

  • ASCP Histotechnician certification.


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Receives patient specimens from investigator and prepares for testing.  

  • Conducts laboratory testing as ordered by investigator and in accordance with trial protocols. 

  • Produces test results and enter data accordingly. 

  • Informs investigator of test results or any abnormalities or complications during testing. 

  • Reports any deviations or incidents from protocol.

  • Assists senior research associates with various laboratory duties as requested.

  • Participates in laboratory maintenance including cleaning and stocking workstations, assisting with instrument validation, ensuring adequate supplies for testing is on-hand, ordering additional lab supplies as necessary, records laboratory equipment readings such as temperature, maintenance logs, etc.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
