Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY  

Under direct supervision, perform basic mechanical assembly operations on production units.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Read and interpret basic blueprints, wiring diagrams, specifications, and work orders to determine materials requirements or assembly instructions
  • Assist with or assemble basic sections of machines to customer specifications; attach unit to assembly, subassembly or frame using various hand and power tools
  • Perform basic mechanical assembly operations to exacting tolerances; position and align parts using fixtures, jigs and templates; work with rotating shafts, gear trains, mechanical structures, and sprockets. 
  • Drill, tap, ream, countersink, and spot face bolt holes in parts; file, lap and buff parts to fit; clean and lubricate parts and subassemblies
  • Use measuring instruments to level and align work, detect and eliminate run-out, work to close tolerances with a demand for square, concentricity and parallelism.
  • Assist with the detection of defective material, unusual conditions or operating difficulties and report to supervisor
  • Attend team meetings; may provide input on quality, cost, or production issues
  • Regularly and effectively communicate and interact with other team members
  • Regular and predictable attendance at the worksite and on any assigned shift or work schedule is required for this position, as is the ability to work frequent overtime; this is not a job that can be performed remotely
  • Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures
  • Maintain work area and equipment in clean, orderly and safe manner

 Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Military, trade school or community college coursework in mechanical assembly, repair, and troubleshooting desired.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires a high level of physical flexibility, strength, and stamina, including the ability to: lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly; see and assess drawings, photos, and written instructions; audibly hear verbal instructions and mechanical signals (forklifts, cranes, machine alarms, etc.); and speak, read, write, and communicate effectively.
