The Position

The Manager, Physical Security Operations is responsible for the day-to-day execution and supervision of physical security operations within a High-Performance Compute Center (“HPCC”) environment.

Reporting to the Director of Physical Security Operations, this role serves as the on-site operational lead for physical security services, ensuring disciplined execution of access control, surveillance, incident response, patrols, and secure logistics activities. The Manager directly oversees the performance of the contracted Physical Security Services provider at the shift and post level, ensuring compliance with post orders, SOPs, EOPs, and Owner standards.

This role operates in a 24/7 mission-critical environment, requiring strong field presence, real-time decision-making, and consistent enforcement of security and logistics controls to protect personnel, assets, facilities, and information.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise daily physical security operations across all assigned posts and shifts.
  • Ensure uninterrupted 24/7/365 coverage in accordance with staffing plans and post requirements.
  • Enforce post orders, SOPs, and EOPs through routine inspections and direct oversight.
  • Serve as the first-line escalation point for on-site security incidents and operational issues.
  • Maintain situational awareness of site conditions, access status, and security risks.
  • Oversee administration of employee, visitor, vendor, and supplier access.
  • Ensure compliance with badge systems, visitor management processes, and vehicle screening protocols.
  • Enforce site rules, including PPE requirements, uniform standards, and segregation of construction and operations areas.
  • Review access logs, visitor records, and exception reports for accuracy and compliance.
  • Oversee alarm monitoring, CCTV surveillance, and intrusion detection system response.
  • Coordinate and direct immediate response to perimeter breaches, alarms, emergencies, or workplace violence incidents.
  • Ensure proper incident documentation, reporting, and evidence handling.
  • Participate in post-incident reviews and support root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Oversee secure screening, handling, and documentation of inbound and outbound materials.
  • Ensure strict adherence to chain-of-custody requirements at all times.
  • Supervise package screening operations, logging, and screening equipment use.
  • Support shipping and receiving operations while maintaining security and compliance standards.
  • Leverage cross-trained guard force personnel to support both security and logistics functions.
  • Monitor security provider performance against defined KPIs and SLAs (staffing compliance, response times, access accuracy, professionalism).
  • Address performance deficiencies, attendance issues, and training gaps in coordination with the Director.
  • Support guard force training, cross-training, and requalification efforts.
  • Participate in audits of security systems, logs, and guard performance.
  • Coordinate closely with Mission-Critical Operations, EH&S, Facilities, and Physical Security leadership.
  • Participate in site-wide safety meetings, drills, and cross-functional briefings.
  • Support emergency preparedness activities and joint exercises.
  • Contribute operational insights and performance data to leadership reporting.

Requirements:

  • Operational authority over on-site physical security activities during assigned shifts.
  • Authority to enforce post orders, deny or revoke access, and stop work for security or safety concerns.
  • Authority to escalate incidents and initiate emergency response protocols.
  • Strategic policy decisions, contract changes, and staffing model changes are escalated to the Director.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, Business Administration, related Military discipline, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 5–8+ years of experience in physical security operations, preferably in mission-critical or high-reliability environments (data centers, logistics hubs, corporate campuses, military, etc.).
  • Experience supervising security teams or contracted guard services.
  • Working knowledge of access control systems, CCTV, alarms, intrusion detection, and visitor/vendor management platforms.
  • Experience supporting secure shipping/receiving operations, package screening, and chain-of-custody controls.
  • Professional certifications (PSP, CPP, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Ability to pass criminal background, employment, and fitness-for-duty requirements.
