Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Thread Support, Staff Systems Engineer (TSSSE). The TSSSE will be assigned to support the logistics thread that comprises maintainability requirements, maintenance & operator skill requirements, and logistics interface capabilities in support of Integrated Logistics Support elements. This highly visible senior engineer role will be located in Roy UT and will support the Air Force’s development, production and deployment of the Sentinel Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) ground and airborne launch control systems, launch facilities, launch control centers, and associated infrastructure. The selected candidate will be charged with delegated authority for the associated Thread Lead(s) they are assigned.

This role provides a great growth opportunity for an individual interested in developing into a senior technical leadership role.  

Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Become a subject matter expert (SME) and technical lead with end-to-end / top-to-bottom understanding for the successful implementation of their assigned thread(s) for the Sentinel Program
  • Execute special projects as needed for their assigned threads
  • Act as the primary delegate of authority for their assigned threads, with responsibility and oversight of all systems engineering products for topics and deliverables such as:
  • Partner with the program's SEIT leadership and Office of Chief Engineering (OCE) to ensure their assigned threads technical baseline is developed with high quality.
  • Brief program leadership, customers, and stakeholders on their assigned threads at both program and technical reviews.
  • Establish an effective system of working group / coordination sessions with stakeholders across the development community to ensure effective horizontal and vertical thread integration.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships across program, customers, and stakeholder communities.
  • Engage in formal and informal mentoring to support knowledge transfer and talent development.
  • Requirements definition and allocation, with cognizance down to the lowest level.
  • Architecture and interface definitions.
  • Functional flows and CONOPS scenarios.
  • Performance / allocation budgets, analysis, and margin management.
  • Trade studies.
  • Verification planning, including coordination of required and expected verification products down to the lowest applicable level.
  • Verification and validation execution, including authorship of requirement verification reports and customer coordination.
  • Solution definition / design artifacts to produce a compliant realization of the thread capability.
  • Integration and test planning and procedure development.
  • Risk and opportunity identification and associated execution planning.
  • Technical Performance Measure (TPM) reporting and management.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) discipline and 12 years of relevant experience OR a Masters’ Degree in a STEM discipline and 10 years of relevant experience OR a PhD in a STEM discipline with 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Must be a US Citizen with an active DoD Secret Clearance with an investigation date within the last 6 years
  • Must be able to be successfully screened for Enhanced Security Clearances, within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs
  • Experience applying new advanced learning technologies, methods, processes and tools
  • Academic or Practical Experience with systems engineering (writing requirements, defining interfaces, performing verification activities)
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to work self-sufficiently
  • Excellent decision making and communication (written and oral) skills
  • Experience with leading a team of diverse, technical backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Large scale / complex system development experience across multiple phases of a development program: preliminary design, detailed design, integration and test, verification and sell off, transition to production.
  • Experience with implementing and using model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools (DOORS and CAMEO), practices, and methods.
  • Strong understanding and broad application of complex engineering systems (engineering standards, configuration management, material review board, process control, tooling, facilities, software, etc.) for the development of complex systems of systems.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations, with ability to focus on multiple projects with competing priorities.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

Salary Range: $147,700.00 - $221,500.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
