Job Description:

Employee Relations Manager

The Employee Relations Manager is responsible for building and sustaining a positive work culture, managing employee relations issues, ensuring compliance with employment laws, and fostering a productive relationship between employees and the institution. This position is responsible for strategically shaping, defining, and managing the employee relations function, processes, and procedures to drive positive impacts on our workplace culture. Additionally, this role will ensure cross-functional investigations and any disciplinary processes are addressed promptly, impartially, and in line with policies/procedures, as well as applicable laws.

Major Responsibilities/Essential Functions Specific to the Position:

  • Lead in design, implementation, and management of strategies and continuous improvement to employee relations framework and deliverables
  • Advises and trains managers and supervisors in best employee relations practices and strategies for managing supervisor problems and employee concerns
  • Provide policy guidance and interpretation of policies and procedures. Recommend updates to policies and procedures as appropriate
  • Serves as Assistant Title IX Coordinator for employees
  • Manage and conduct workplace investigations in response to a variety of employee relations concerns, including harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and violations of policies
  • Provide guidance and support to employees and leaders in resolving conflict and performance issues, recommending appropriate corrective actions, including disciplinary measures when necessary
  • Prepare comprehensive investigation reports, employee discipline/separation notices, and other related documentation
  • Collect and perform analysis of employment-related data such as turnover rates, exit interview data, and employee feedback to identify trends and areas of improvement
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to provide training and educational programs to employees on HR policies, procedures, and compliance matters
  • Works closely and collaboratively with Faculty Affairs.
  • Maintain and protect accurate, confidential records regarding investigations
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply applicable state, federal, and local employment laws
  • Ability to remain tactful, calm, and persuasive in controversial and/or confrontational situations
  • Demonstrated skill in conducting workplace investigations, negotiations, and conflict management
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, integrity, and exercise discretion
  • Excellent consultative skills and ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across varied stakeholder audiences including senior organizational leaders
  • Demonstrated successful experience with constructive confrontation, conflict resolution, problem assessment, and solution generation
  • Proven ability to work with minimal guidance, manage multiple priorities simultaneously, and take initiative on completing projects
  • Ability to maintain a calm and composed demeanor during challenging circumstances
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration,  Industrial/Organizational Psychology or closely related field
  • Five or more years of direct employee relations management experience
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment, remaining adaptable and resilient

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience
  • Experience working in medical or higher education
  • Proficient in Workday and navigating Performance Management module
  • SPHR/PHR or SHRM-SCP/SHRM-CP certification

About Us!

Founded in 2021 by philanthropist Alice Walton, the School of Medicine will offer a medical degree-granting program that builds on conventional medicine with an inclusive, compassionate, and whole health approach. The School of Medicine embraces self-care to empower students to care for their patients and themselves and helps them rise to the health challenges of the 21st century with a focus on mental, physical, social, and emotional health. The School will have an attached clinic for training in these concepts. Currently, the School of Medicine seeks to be a national medical school with the goal of welcoming its inaugural class in 2025, pending programmatic and institutional accreditation.

Construction of the 154,000 square-foot building has begun with the goal of completing and welcoming the first class in Fall 2025, pending accreditation. AWSOM will be located east of Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas.
