The Role / Position Overview 

The US B2B & Agency Sales Team sits within the Global Commercial Team and reports to the VP of Americas. The team is responsible for selling advertising and sponsorships into FT products to US based media agencies for both US and international business. The team generates in excess of $30m across our print and digital offerings.

Understanding the FT’s position within the ever more complicated media environment is key to the success of this role. Working closely with our Client Relationship Directors and senior team members, you will be instrumental in establishing cohesive business plans aimed at increasing revenue from our key accounts as well as a strong focus on building new revenue lines via untapped client and agency relationships. 

The successful candidate will be able to convince both key and non-key accounts of the merits of the FT’s editorial proposition, audience, data points and products through intelligent sales narratives and trading initiatives.The successful candidate will be self-motivated, results driven, and have the capacity to learn new skills and systems. 

 Key Responsibilities

  • Working within a combination of a set patch of clients and canvassing new business from a non-endemic perspective, with a responsibility for creating compelling sales stories aimed at providing both clients and agencies with well thought out communication plans utilising the FT’s portfolio. 
  • Implementing client’s media plans with accuracy and efficiency while looking at ways in which we can increase the effectiveness of the campaign. 
  • Building comprehensive action plans that detail the approach to non-core advertising clients
  • Negotiating all business on a client by client basis while maintaining strong communication to all collaborators globally.
  • Working consultatively with the FT ad ops and campaign management teams
  • Establishing meaningful relationships with the Group Directors, strategy, planning teams and buying teams within the area of responsibility and ensuring that they understand the FT’s audience profile and portfolio.
  • Working with our vast array of syndicated and custom research to create compelling sales stories that should be delivered to key personnel with your patch
  • Increasing year on year revenue. Where spend is likely to decrease or stop, an active plan to replace deficits
  • Actively chasing incoming and pro-active leads, and challenging leads why FT are not part of those plans.
  • Using negotiation skills aimed to maximise the FT’s revenue and/or share on all media plans.
  • Keeping clients updated on the constantly evolving technical capabilities of the FT and the benefits/opportunities these developments can deliver.

 Required Skills / Experience 

  • Ideally, at least 2 years of advertising sales experience
  • Strong digital interest and proficiency
  • A successful sales record that demonstrates ability to convert new or re-engage lapsed business
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, group environment
  • Excellent technical proficiency in Powerpoint, Excel, and Salesforce 
  • Ability to use analytics to encourage incremental revenue across campaigns
  • Experience in using self-initiative to create new revenue opportunities.

A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role is $75,000 - $85,000. To ensure pay fairness, the successful candidate will be offered a salary within the estimated salary range based on a number of considerations including but not limited to: skills; experience and training; certifications; and other business and organisational needs. The disclosed range estimate is for our NYC office and has not been adjusted for other locations.
