Reports to: Chief Growth Officer and Global Head, Consumer
Role Overview
The SVP, Growth Strategy & New Ventures will lead the identification, incubation, and early scaling of new consumer businesses that extend beyond Dow Jones’ core subscription and advertising models. This role is responsible for building net-new revenue lines—from concept through launch and early scale—using strategy as a tool to drive execution, commercial outcomes, and long-term value creation.
Sitting within the Consumer organization, this role works closely with GM’s, Product & Technology, Editorial, Sales, Marketing, Legal, and Corporate Development. The focus is on early-stage business development: shaping strategy, validating demand and economics, defining operating models, and accelerating high-potential initiatives to market readiness. As initiatives mature, they may scale within existing businesses, transition to dedicated general management, or continue under the SVP’s ownership.
This role carries end-to-end accountability for the success or failure of initiatives under its remit, including strategic direction, commercial performance, and operational execution through early scale.
Key Responsibilities
Identify and evaluate new consumer growth opportunities across media, memberships, events, commerce, platforms, and emerging distribution models, including AI platforms and new content ecosystems.
Lead market assessment and validation efforts, including customer research, market sizing, pricing strategy, and unit-economic modeling.
Incubate new initiatives from concept through launch and initial scale, with direct accountability for meeting defined revenue and growth targets.
Own successful initiatives through early scale, including interim P&L responsibility, until transitioned to a dedicated GM or integrated into an existing business.
Partner cross-functionally to move initiatives from concept to execution efficiently within a scaled organization.
Define and implement early operating models, success metrics, and team structures to support long-term scalability.
Build and manage teams as needed to support venture development and execution.
Establish a disciplined, repeatable approach for developing, testing, and scaling new consumer revenue lines.
Partner with senior leaders to design and launch net-new ARPU drivers through bundling, tiering, and add-on products, ensuring alignment with brand and editorial standards.
Identify and assess inorganic growth opportunities in the consumer space; serve as a key business-side lead for consumer-facing transactions, partnering with Corporate Development through diligence, structuring, and execution.
Lead post-close integration and value capture for consumer acquisitions, ensuring new brands are positioned for growth within the Dow Jones Consumer portfolio.
Qualifications
15+ years of experience in strategy, venture development, growth leadership, or commercial roles within digital media, subscription businesses, consumer technology, or adjacent industries.
Experience in top-tier management consulting or corporate strategy roles, with a proven ability to translate complex analysis into real-world execution.
MBA and/or JD preferred, or equivalent experience building and scaling new consumer businesses.
Strong commercial judgment, with experience evaluating P&Ls, unit economics, and investment trade-offs.
Demonstrated ability to take early-stage ideas from concept through launch in complex, cross-functional environments.
Experience structuring and managing partnerships, transactions, or commercial agreements.
Analytical, action-oriented decision-maker with comfort operating in ambiguity.
