Global Payroll Transformation Manager
We’re looking for an experienced Global Payroll Transformation Manager to help us consolidate our payroll landscape, integrate acquired payrolls and drive governance, compliance, and payroll execution excellence. The successful candidate will have an eye for detail and be comfortable with payroll strategy and able to put company purpose, culture and employee experience at the heart of all that we do. The Global Payroll Transformation Manager will report to the Director, People Services [shared service], sit on the People Services leadership team.
Our Payroll Journey
In 2019 we commenced activity to consolidate global payroll providers. At the time we had payroll operations in 42 countries, 11 of which were processed in house and 31 were outsourced to a total of 22 suppliers! When completed, we will have reduced the number of payroll providers globally from 30 to 8, decommissioned SAP which will no longer be used to process payroll and implemented global payroll standards and practice.
The HR function is looking to simplify a fragmented payroll landscape, improve ease of operations and radically improve employee and manager experience, removing barriers to execution and delivering simple, modern, agile, efficient people processes. The role holder will be responsible for owning, evolving, driving/executing the payroll strategy to deliver brilliant basics, automate where possible, optimise existing technology and evaluate new and appropriate solutions.
Role Purpose
- Deliver a revised Global payroll strategy, consolidating the landscape and reducing ongoing payroll costs.
- Successfully integrate new payrolls into our portfolio.
- Lead, manage and develop the People Services Global Payroll service embedding global harmonised processes enabling the standardised delivery of end-to-end Payroll Services with consideration for local nuance. This role will work in close collaboration with business stakeholders to enable accurate and timely delivery of payrolls.
- Provide leadership for those managing the execution of payroll processes.
- Ensure payroll team members possess tools and competencies required to deliver efficient and effective payroll practices.
- Provide effective people leadership through coaching, feedback and sound performance management practices
- Act as champion for the team and intervene on matters that create roadblocks to individual or organizational success.
- Review audit controls, developing where necessary and ensure execution and continuous improvement
- Partner with critical stakeholders, including Benefits, Local HR teams, plant administration and leaders, Finance and Risk management to ensure Payroll Services are delivered as stated and Continuous Improvement is the norm.
- Engage, oversee and approve Payroll changes globally ensuring alignment to globally standardised payroll processes

Key Responsibilities
- Drive operational delivery of high quality and timely, end-to-end payroll services globally through the leadership of payroll teams
- Implement and embed end-to-end standard business processes, service standards, internal control governance and reporting that will deliver against agreed SLA’s
- Execute effective and efficient Issue & Incident management and resolution to ensure learnings are incorporated into optimised process to eliminate repeats and drive teams to ensure resolution of issues are embedded to meet SLA and agreed timelines
- Manage and build relationships with all key stakeholders (internal and external) within a complex business environment across multiple geographies to fulfil SLA deliverables which includes meeting statutory compliance obligations
- Work with operational teams to establish plans and priorities to meet the People Services strategic objectives
- Lead, inspire and develop operational teams through effective goal setting, performance management, timely succession planning and embedding a high-performance culture
- Monitor and implement operating plan for area of responsibility to deliver high quality and timely service.
- Drive regular process and quality audits to ensure payroll and data quality including implementation of audit findings
- Drive improvement projects as identified to reduce costs and drive higher quality service offering
- Build and develop a global delivery team to be passionate about providing a superior service and customer experience
- Undertake regular service delivery audits and qualitative reviews to ensure ongoing governance and quality performance is measured, monitored, and being implemented across Payroll teams
- Collaborate across the People Service / Payroll team to address problems, to resolve issues, clarify or interpret complex information and/ or provide problem definition, solutions and implementation thereof.
- Ensure our people are paid accurately and on-time
- Ensure payroll processes are executed in accordance with the Global Payroll Policy and Standard Operating Procedures, SLA's and KPI's
- Actively build and maintain strong relationships with payroll team and payroll stakeholders to enhance and support the Payroll Services provision
- Build strong relationships with HR colleagues and business managers as required and act as subject matter expert on Payroll processing and best practice
- Respond to escalated issues
- Manage, motivate, and develop Payroll Services team and ensure optimal performance and continual delivery. Identify development needs, manage individual performance, and complete goals and IDPs
- Positively promote the Tate & Lyle employer brand, ensuring that employee experience, purpose, culture are incorporated into the overall focus and strategy of Payroll Services

The Ideal Candidate will possess
- Proven track record of delivering payroll transformation projects.
- Experience of establishing, building and managing high-performing Payroll delivery teams in a global context.
- You will have experience of running payroll teams within medium sized, complex organisations and have payroll certification.
- Sound judgement and strong decision-making skills.
- Problem solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven team management skills, with the ability to direct, encourage, support and motivate.
- Experience of working in a shared service environment.
- Experience in managing senior stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to transcend between strategic thinking and operational excellence with a focus on quality, control and execution.
