Design Engineer – Software/Control Development (Electric Rope Shovels)

Location: Tucson, AZ

Domestic Relocation: Available

Are you ready to power the future of mining? Join Caterpillar’s RIOP Division and be part of a high-impact team driving innovation in Electric Rope Shovel (ERS) systems. We’re looking for a passionate and skilled Software/Control Development Engineer to help shape the next generation of mining equipment through cutting-edge software and control solutions.

What You’ll Do:

As a key contributor, you’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to bring software solutions from concept to reality. Your work will directly support Continuous Product Improvement (CPI), New Product Introduction (NPI), and aftermarket machines technology.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Design and implement robust, scalable software solutions to satisfy customer and business expectations.
• Writing clear, structured, and well-documented software requirements.
• Developing control logic using PLC and HMI
• Providing technical expertise on PLC/HMI systems and embedded software technologies.
• Create, Develop, and execute test plans to validate software on benches and machines.
• Support ERS CPI, aftermarket, and NPI activities
• Collaboration with partner teams to ensure timely delivery.

What You Bring:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Hands-on experience in software development.

Top Candidates Will Have:

• Experience with Siemens Step 7 and WinCC.
• Experience with Allen Bradley PLC5 and FactoryTalk.
• Background in off-highway trucks and/or mining equipment.
• Experience of MATLAB Simulink, C, and C++.

Summary Pay Range:

$87,480.00 - $131,280.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
