The Opportunity:
CACI is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Cybersecurity Intern to join our growing information security team. This is an excellent opportunity for you to gain hands-on experience in a real-world environment. As a Cybersecurity Intern, you will have the chance to work alongside experienced security professionals and contribute to the organization's efforts to protect its digital assets and data. You will have the opportunity to gain practical experience with industry-standard cybersecurity tools and technologies; contribute to threat detection, incident response, and vulnerability management activities; collaborate with a dynamic team of cybersecurity experts in a fast-paced environment; develop skills in penetration testing, risk assessment, and security audits and help strengthen the company’s overall security posture and compliance efforts.


Responsibilities:

  • Monitor network traffic and security alerts to detect potential threats, vulnerabilities, or suspicious activities.
  • Assist in incident response activities, including triaging, documenting, and escalating security incidents.
  • Support vulnerability scanning and risk assessments of systems and applications using industry tools.
  • Collaborate in penetration testing exercises to identify weaknesses and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Help maintain and update security software, such as firewalls, anti-virus programs, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
  • Assist with patch management processes by identifying unpatched vulnerabilities and coordinating updates.
  • Document security incidents, procedures, and findings for review by senior security personnel.
  • Provide support for security audits, ensuring compliance with internal security standards and external regulations.
  • Help configure and maintain network security devices (e.g., firewalls, routers, VPNs).
  • Participate in the creation and maintenance of internal security policies and procedures.
  • Assist in organizing and running internal security awareness programs for employees.
  • Support data protection and privacy initiatives to ensure sensitive information is securely handled.
  • Research new and emerging cybersecurity threats, tools, and technologies to stay ahead of potential risks.
  • Assist with gathering and analyzing threat intelligence data to improve detection and prevention capabilities.
  • Collaborate with IT teams and other departments to ensure that security measures are integrated across all company systems.


Qualifications:

  • Required: 
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of network security concepts, protocols, and technologies (e.g., TCP/IP, firewalls, VPNs).
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity tools such as SIEM, IDS/IPS, vulnerability scanners (e.g., Nessus, OpenVAS).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical staff.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future

    Desired
  • Ongoing education with penetration testing or ethical hacking tools (e.g., Kali Linux, Metasploit, Burp Suite).
  • Knowledge of common security frameworks and standards (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001, GDPR).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and their security configurations.
  • Understanding of scripting or programming languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for automation and security tasks.
  • Previous internship or work experience in a cybersecurity or IT role.

Pay Range: There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications. The proposed salary range for this position is:

$45,900 - $91,900
