The System Engineer is responsible for the design, stability, and operational support of enterprise infrastructure and applications. This role combines strong systems and network engineering expertise with production support responsibilities across the Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) framework. The System Engineer ensures enterprise systems and applications are reliable, secure, scalable, and operationally ready from onboarding through retirement, partnering closely with infrastructure, development, security, vendors, and business stakeholders.
Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities
- Systems & Infrastructure Engineering
- Evaluate, monitor, and troubleshoot enterprise network, server, and datacenter infrastructure across production and non-production environments.
- Design, implement, and maintain infrastructure improvements to enhance performance, reliability, and resilience.
- Provision, configure, and support servers, networking hardware, and system software.
- Monitor network performance, firewalls, IDS/IPS systems, system functionality, and logging platforms.
- Develop, maintain, and enforce IT security standards and policies.
- Perform complex troubleshooting across OS, network, application, and integration layers (Layer 1–7).
- Research, develop, and implement automation tools, monitoring solutions, and standard operating procedures to reduce risk and outages.
- Own IT hardware and software maintenance, lifecycle management, and procurement activities.
- Application Lifecycle Management & Production Support
- Participate in all phases of the ALM framework (intake, build, test, release, operate, optimize, and retire) from a systems and production support perspective.
- Provide Tier 2/3 production support for enterprise and third-party applications.
- Support application onboarding, architecture reviews, and production readiness assessments, ensuring monitoring, supportability, and recovery standards are met.
- Support releases by validating runbooks, monitoring, alerting, rollback procedures, and escalation paths.
- Ensure smooth transition of applications from project delivery into steady-state operations.
- Assist with application decommissioning and retirement, ensuring proper cleanup of infrastructure and dependencies.
- Incident, Change & Operational Excellence
- Monitor application and system availability, performance, and integrations using established tools.
- Lead or participate in incident response, triage, root cause analysis (RCA), and post-incident reviews.
- Act as an escalation point for high-severity incidents, coordinating resolution across internal teams and vendors.
- Communicate incident status, risks, and resolutions clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Support ITIL-aligned change, release, and environment management processes.
- Identify recurring issues and drive long-term remediation through problem management and continuous improvement.
- Documentation & Collaboration
- Create and maintain accurate technical documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures.
- Act as a liaison between infrastructure, application teams, security, vendors, and management.
- Ensure expectations are clearly communicated and met in a timely and effective manner.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of experience in Systems Engineering, Infrastructure Support, or Enterprise Production Operations.
- Proven experience supporting enterprise systems and applications in production environments.
- Experience with system deployments, upgrades, and migrations.
Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge
- Strong knowledge of IT and security controls, governance concepts, and audit practices.
- Ability to operate effectively as an audit facilitator and liaison, rather than a hands on security operator.
- Working knowledge of security architectures, cloud environments, and common security technologies sufficient to support audit discussions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex topics to executive audiences.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple audit activities and deadlines simultaneously.
- High attention to detail while maintaining the ability to synthesize information into clear audit narratives.
- Ability to influence and coordinate across technical and business teams without direct authority.
- Sound judgment in identifying risk, prioritizing issues, and supporting remediation discussions.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Working on-site at assigned office location.
- Regular and punctual attendance adhering to schedule established by leadership.
- Flexibility to work occasional adjusted work schedules, overtime, and evening and/or weekend hours to meet deadlines or as business needs demand.
- Working in a cubicle hub, maintaining focus on phone calls in a noisy environment within earshot of multiple other conversations.
- Sedentary work in a stationary position at a cubicle for prolonged periods of time.
- Constant repetitive motions required for operating a computer, such as typing and managing phone calls.
- Constantly communicating effectively verbally in English, including accurately exchanging information with others following identification of correct procedures.
