As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team of test engineers, you will help test a wide variety of vehicle components to meet Blue Origin's program requirements for various spaceflight systems. From heat exchangers and hydraulic pumps to in-space propulsion components and lunar vehicle subsystems, you will gain hands-on experience with a plethora of development and flight rated hardware. As a test engineer at the Vacuum Engine Experiment (VEEx) test stand, you will take on a critical role by contributing to test operations through assisting with test planning and execution, risk identification and mitigation, hardware integration for test campaigns, pre and post-test inspections, data review and performance analysis. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable operations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • 2+ years of experience in a testing environment
  • 2+ years of experience in executing test procedures
  • Demonstrated familiarity with data analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects and work independently
  • Strong technical fundamentals in fluid mechanics/dynamics, heat transfer, and thermodynamics
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering standards, technical requirements and engineering drawings
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated familiarity with Microsoft Suite programs
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (Current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S. or Ph.D., in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with experimental lab experience
  • Rocketry experience through internships or club activities
  • Safety training and experience with high pressure systems, LOTO, oxygen and hydrogen gaseous and cryogenic systems
  • Experience working with cryogenics
  • Steam generation and ejector based or pump based vacuum system experience
  • Experience designing, fabricating or operating fluid systems
  • Knowledge of avionics, electrical circuits, hardware, and electrical concepts
  • Knowledge of instrumentation including pressure transducers, thermocouples, silicon diodes, resistance temperature detectors and other fluid components
  • Operational understanding of engines and engine sub-components, such as turbopumps, combustion devices, valves, Coriolis and venturi flowmeters, load cells, and accelerometers
  • Hands-on experience with integrating test articles and sub-assemblies for test
  • Familiarity with LabVIEW, MATLAB, Winplot, NI TestStand, TRA or other control/data acquisition and reduction software
  • Familiarity with CAD applications (AutoCAD and Creo preferred)
