Position Overview:

Join our dynamic organization at the forefront of clean tech and renewable energy. Ameresco seeks an experienced Senior Accountant to support Ameresco’s operations in Greece, including its joint venture entities. This position will be reporting to the Senior Finance Manager in our corporate office and will also work closely with the Europe Finance team based in the UK. In this role, you will undertake financial and project analysis and reporting, from project-level transaction review to entity-level accounting and reporting support. You will provide essential support to business units and their leadership. You will spearhead full-cycle project accounting and financial analysis, supporting units comprising energy efficiency and renewable energy projects, recurring operations and maintenance contracts, a portfolio of energy asset investments, and tightly managed operating expenses. The ideal candidate will possess a strong accounting background and analytical skills, with experience in U.S. GAAP or equivalent accounting principles, and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with multiple project managers and business unit leaders to provide accounting support and solutions for various challenges, including project cost and revenue analysis, financial metrics, and periodic reporting.
  • Support project-level revenue and cost projections, as well as operating expense analysis and forecasting, leading to an updated P&L forecast for the Greece business on a monthly basis.
  • Coordinate initial customer project setup in the system, including reviewing contractual terms to understand the accounting implications.
  • Conduct monthly project workbook reviews with Project Managers, Construction Directors, and Business Unit V.P.’s, analyzing individual project status, direct costs, cost accruals, and capitalized costs, updating project forecasts, analyzing and adjusting project budgets, and finalizing project analysis and closeouts.
  • Ensure accurate cost accumulation and revenue recognition (primarily percentage of completion) by monitoring project revenues and costs.
  • Analyze the position and performance of the business providing commentary against budgets, forecasts and previous trends
  • Manage customer project billings ensuring invoices are issued in line with milestones
  • Prepare local VAT returns and withholding tax submissions.
  • Assist in the monthly and quarterly balance sheet reconciliations, quarterly Ameresco consolidated audits, and the annual statutory filings
  • Manage the weekly/bi-weekly vendor payment cycle and prepare cash flow forecasts
  • Provide support with banking relationship matters
  • Prepare revenue and cost adjustment general ledger entries and collaborate with the corporate or UK finance team to process adjustments in the appropriate accounting period.
  • Assist in maintaining project accounting policies and procedures and ensure timely closure of books each month in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Interface with various business systems, including Microsoft D365 accounting system, Adaptive Insights planning system, Workday, Salesforce, and other systems as required.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • At least 5 (five) years of relevant accounting or finance experience, preferably in project accounting or financial management.
  • Experience in construction, energy efficiency projects, or similar industries is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics D365 and Adaptive Insights, or similar financial and planning systems, is a plus.
  • Solid understanding and application of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Strong grasp of financial principles, budgeting, and financial analysis.
  • Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail coupled with the ability to understand and communicate the big picture.
  • Proficiency in MS Office with advanced Excel skills.
  • Fluent in Greek and English language
  • Effective written communication skills, including the ability to convey technical information concisely.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Experience managing cross-functional processes and building trust across organizational levels while maintaining confidentiality and credibility.
