Global Tech Omni Transportation is responsible for software led design, development, and operations for omni delivery network.  We are dedicated to the mission of reshaping how our customers interacts with Walmart, making it frictionless and faster delivery. As an Engineer in the team, you will be providing experience to Walmart Customers, Drivers and transportation partners. We help bring a seamless experience to our customers irrespective of how and where they engage with us - while shopping online, delivery at home and picking groceries at stores. We operate at the intersection of huge Walmart deliveries for millions of customers, thousands of stores, and Walmart associates - a multi-layer multi-objective problem space which has a unique impact on Global consumer base.

We are tasked with building the foundational technologies for Infrastructure & platforms, vital to success at this scale paired with technical solutions for complex business workflows using cutting edge technologies. We are building low latency, high throughput ecosystem to support Walmart needs for US and International markets. Be Event driven architecture or Microservice or throttling pattern that serves experience for Walmart Transportation Network. About The Team:


Our team works closely with our US stores and eCommerce business to better serve customers by empowering team members, stores, and merchants with technological innovation. From groceries and entertainment to sporting goods and crafts, Walmart U.S. offers an extensive selection that our customers value, whether they shop online at Walmart.com, through one of our mobile apps, or in-store. Focus areas include customers, stores and employees, in-store service, merchant tools, merchant data science, and search and personalization.

Responsibilities:

As a Principal Software Engineer for Omni Global Tech Transportation team at Walmart, you’ll have the opportunity to

  • Guide and mentor, a team of engineers, conducting code reviews and leading design discussions to ensure engineering best practices.  
  • Act as a technical authority, providing direction, hands on POCs and expertise to the team.  
  • Drive the adoption of coding standards, design patterns, and development best practices.  

Architectural Leadership:  

  • Lead the creation and maintenance of our technical design and architecture for scalable, robust, and high-performance software aligning it with business goals and tech goals.  
  • Architect complex software systems, ensuring performance, security, and compliance needs are met.  

Software Craftsmanship:  

  • Consistently produce high-quality software with a focus on unit testing, regular code reviews, and continuous integration.  
  • Uphold high standards in quality and operational excellence.  

Technical Documentation:  

  • Develop comprehensive technical documentation and presentations to clearly communicate architectural decisions and design options.  
  • Ensure documentation aligns with project scopes, milestones, and deliverables.  

Engineering Advocacy:  

  • Promote and enforce technical standards across the organization to achieve concrete outcomes and drive engineering excellence.  
  • Foster a culture of learning and innovation through hands-on technical guidance and mentorship.  

Project Leadership:  

  • Lead the discovery and design phase of major projects, ensuring the design aligns with business goals and technical requirements. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define tech scopes and milestones.  

Cross-functional Collaboration:  

  • Collaborate closely with Users, Product Management, UX/UI, Quality Assurance, and DevOps teams.  
  • Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.  

Innovation and Research:  

  • Stay at the forefront of technological advancements, conducting research to identify emerging tools and methodologies.  
  • Write blogs to promote tech advancements and developer productivity.



What you'll bring:

  • B.S./MS in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 14+ years of experience in software design and development of high scale applications development in product-based companies.
  • 12+ years of experience building micro-services using JAVA.
  • Strong background in computer science: algorithms and data structures.
  • Proven experience with data security and data encryption for Public APIs.
  • Deep understanding of micro services architecture, cloud computing (Private, Azure, or GCP), and containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Solid experience with databases (SQL and NoSQL) and data modelling for large-scale distributed systems.
  • Proficient with design patterns, OOP, and/or Functional programming.
  • Proficient in designing robust, large scale backend system, considering for performance, scalability, security, and maintainability.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to work independently and in a team.
  • Experience with ML algorithms, tools, and ML systems is nice to have.
  • Familiarity with front-end technologies such as React or Angular or mobile tech.

The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00-$286,000.00
