A Brief Overview:
The Mental Health Associate I provides direct patient care to patients with mental health disorders. The Mental Health Associate I performs treatment planning and implementation while facilitating groups within assigned treatment programs. The Mental Health Associate I ensures the safety and well-being of these patients by maintaining a safe environment and documents according to department/organization procedures.

What you will do:
  • Facilitates didactic, educational and unit/program community groups within the assigned treatment programs. Encourages and facilitates patients’ participation in therapeutic activities. Supervises patients to ensure their safety and their involvement in treatment.
  • Ensures patient safety by providing one-to-one supervision. Unit rounds are conducted, and precautions records completed in real time. Precautions records are accurately labeled.
  • Orients new patients to unit, program and milieu by establishing a rapport with patients and families and making necessary introductions. Provides appropriate hand off information when accepting or receiving borders from other units.
  • Participates in treatment planning by working with interdisciplinary team to identify patients’ problems, needs and strengths, suggests modifications to treatment plan based on observation of patient behavior and provides input into discharge planning.
  • Completes patient, program, and department documentation.
  • Performs various clerical and administrative assignments to support department operations.
  • Monitors and reports patients’ progress and communicates information to charge person on assigned shift and family members.

What you will need:
  • Bachelors Degree Health Administration Required
  • Internship or previous experience in dealing with psychiatric patients.
  • CPI Certification - Crisis Prevention Institue (CPI) CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification within 90 days of hire Required And
  • American Red Cross CPR - American Red Cross Current CPR certification with the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required. Required And
  • Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) Current LCPC (License Clinical Professional Counselor) Required And
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) LCSW (License Clinical Social Worker) licensure to practice in the state of Illinois or eligible preferred. Required
