- The Care Assistant (CA) is a support care provider who functions under the direction of the clinical nurse (Registered Professional Nurse).
- The Care Assistant's primary focus will be to promote a positive patient experience by partnering with the patient, family and other health care providers to provide excellence in customer service and assistance with daily living activities and comfort measures.
- The CA assists other health care providers with safe, age appropriate and culturally aware care by performing basic patient care functions (i.e. activities of daily living (ADL), ambulation), transporting supplies/equipment/patient medications and stocking supply areas.
- The Care Assistant must be able to work in a fast-paced environment which requires multi-tasking activities and ongoing communication with the registered nurse.
- Must be able to perform under stressful conditions with a compassionate, respectful, and helpful manner.
- Must be able to take direction from a variety of care providers. Must be organized with excellent communication skills.
- The Care Assistant Position reports directly to the department Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager.
- Patient centered care- Performs basic patient care under the direction of the Registered Professional Nurse (ADLs, ambulation).
- Transports specimens, equipment, medications, blood products to and from the assigned unit.
- Restocks supplies.
- Proactively offers assistance and comfort measures to patients and families.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Minimum Education:
- Rising High School Senior (completion of junior year) or senior classification in with satisfactory standing (2.0 GPA or higher)
Preferred Education:
- High school diploma or General Education Diploma/Development (GED). Graduation from a State approved program for Certified Nursing Assistants or Patient Care Tech Program preferred.

- Ability to read, write and speak English language; basic computer skills required.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills; ability to multi-task; ability to function in stressful and emergency situations is essential.
