Category Lead – Raw Materials

Role Overview:  

As a Category Lead – Raw Materials, you will be part of the Regional Procurement team, which serves as Huntsman’s central regional support for EMEA. In this role, you will be responsible for the sourcing and management of Raw Materials category for PUR Systems and the selected product groups for the Polyurethanes division. You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders across Europe, acting as the main contact for PUR Systems within the procurement function.

Role Responsibilities: 

As a Category Lead – Raw Materials, you will be responsible for: 

  • Developing and implementing strategic sourcing methods to reduce the cost of raw materials and achieve best value for the company.
  • Negotiating prices and managing contracts, including running tenders and evaluating supplier offers.
  • Minimize working capital by reduction payment terms, optimizing the supply chain for direct materials and minimizing company inventory.
  • Acting as the first point of contact for procurement matters for PUR Systems.
  • Collecting and analyzing market data to support supplier selection and category decisions.
  • Identifying cost drivers and working with stakeholders to develop cost-saving initiatives.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal teams (such as R&D, supply chain, and legal) and external suppliers.
  • Introducing and evaluating new suppliers, ensuring they meet company requirements.
  • Preparing business reports (KPIs, project updates, savings, spend maps) for management and stakeholders.

Experience and Competencies: 

We are looking for experienced candidates who combine excellent communication skills with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset—ready to make a real impact in our dynamic procurement team.

What we are looking for: 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, or equivalent through experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in purchasing or a similar commercial function.
  • Experience in buying raw materials or other direct categories is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in sourcing directly in the markets or via managing the relationship with a distributor is required.
  • Previous professional experience in an international environment.
  • Experience in managing or sourcing complex projects.
  • Experience in commercial negotiations and contract development.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work with data.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with people in different locations and on different levels in the organization.
  • Experience with SAP or other procurement tools is a strong plus.
  • English required.
