The State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio (STRS Ohio) is seeking a Financial Reporting Officer or Senior Financial Reporting Officer to join its Real Estate Accounting team. Nearly two-thirds of STRS Ohio’s investment assets are managed internally by more than 100 Investment Department professionals.

Compensation:
Grade 8N: $36.15 - $39.77/hr.
Grade 9: $93,400 - $102,740
Work Schedule:
8:00am-5:00pm Monday through Friday, with up to two days per week remote work opportunities.
General Summary Grades 8N or 9:
Under the direction of the manager, Real Estate Financial Operations, establish and communicate accounting, budgeting, cash management and financial reporting procedures for State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio (STRS Ohio) real estate properties. Provide accounting support in the acquisition and disposition of real estate properties.
Summary of Responsibilities Grades 8N or 9:
- Provide fee managers with information and guidance on the financial reporting requirements of STRS Ohio.
- Provide timely responses to property managers requesting assistance with accounting and software related issues.
- Provide accounting and financial reporting support for the real estate investment portfolio. Compile, summarize and verify financial information in the financial reporting process. Prepare monthly and quarterly reports and journal entries. (Grade 8N)
- Review monthly property reporting packages. Review and approve monthly bank reconciliations and resolve any issues. (Grade 8N)
- Assist in the financial reporting process to external organizations and preparing various real estate tax returns. (Grade 9). Assist in gathering, reporting and verifying annual property budgets. (Grade 8N)
- Establish and communicate accounting, budgeting, cash management and financial reporting procedures for fee managers and venture partners ensuring that procedures meet the property, asset and portfolio reporting requirements. (Grade 9)
- Compile, summarize and verify financial information in the financial reporting process of the real estate portfolio. Prepare monthly and quarterly reports and journal entries. Analyze financial statements prepared by fee managers, borrowers and partners; verify the accuracy and completeness of the information submitted. (Grade 9)
- Coordinate the development and enhancement of real estate accounting, budgeting and cash management systems, including the implementation of the MRI software at commercial and multi-family residential sites. Perform testing and evaluation of approved upgrades and applications. Ensure internal accounting controls are implemented to preserve the integrity of data and financial assets. (Grade 9)
- Provide support to the acquisition and asset management staff in the acquisition and disposition of assets. Ensure bank accounts are established or closed in a timely manner. Assist property management staff in interpreting and adhering to STRS Ohio operating procedures. (Grade 9)

Summary of Qualifications Grades 8N or 9:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field required.
- Three to five years’ experience in accounting preferred: real estate accounting, financial reporting and data analysis experience desirable. (Grade 8N)
- Five to seven years experience in accounting, financial reporting and data analysis required. (Grade 9)
- Knowledge of banking terminology and services desirable/required.
- High degree of analytical skills, accuracy and attention to detail required. (Grade 8N)
- Knowledge of real estate operation procedures including knowledge of tenant expense recovery calculations, percentage rent calculations, and occupancy calculations required. (Grade 9)
- Demonstrated knowledge of internal control procedures including cash management procedures required. (Grade 9)
- Excellent math and analytical skills required. (Grade 9)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail required. (Grade 9)
- Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with internal and external contacts required.
