Do work that matters

As a Senior Engineering Manager at CommBank, you’ll balance hands on technical leadership with people development, creating an environment where engineers can do their best work. This role is accountable for the establishment and ongoing BAU operation of the Group Reconciliations Platform (DIM SaaS), ensuring sustainable service delivery and operational stability as part of the persistent run team. You’ll be accountable for end-to-end product outcomes, combining deep technical leadership with commercial, customer, and risk ownership. You’ll partner with the vendor and build strong relationships with the relevant business units and our key stakeholders and lead a small team of passionate engineers to build a scalable, secure, customer-first solution. You’ll lead what we build, why we build it, and how it creates value, working as an equal partner across Engineering, Design, and our Federated Business Units.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the establishment and ongoing BAU operation of the Group Reconciliations Platform (DIM SaaS), ensuring sustainable service delivery and operational stability as part of the persistent run team.

  • Partner with all CBA business units to ensure this Group solution supports their individual needs.

  • Develop a product roadmap in collaboration with key business stakeholders and, where appropriate, influence the vendor to align uplift activities accordingly.

  • Lead and coach a team of engineers to deliver high‑quality software products and platforms.

  • Create an environment of trust, learning, and psychological safety.

  • Ensure reliability, observability, and security are embedded in all solutions.

  • Partner closely with Product and Design in a triad leadership model

  • Drive modern engineering practices, from CI/CD to cloud-native development.

  • Foster a culture of innovation, curiosity, and continuous improvement.

  • Own product strategy, roadmap, and prioritisation aligned to customer value and business outcomes.

  • Translate strategy into measurable outcomes (OKRs, KPIs, value hypotheses)

  • Balance time, cost, risk, and value in decision‑making.

  • Act as the single accountable owner for product across the whole group.

Skills Required

We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. As the Leader of people and work, significant experience across the following areas is required for you to be successful in this role:

  • Strong technical foundation in modern software engineering practices (cloud, APIs, Integration, DevOps).

  • Proven ability to coach and mentor engineers for technical and career growth.

  • Ability to balance product, engineering, and delivery trade‑offs.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Experience building and running production systems at scale in a leadership role.

  • Familiarity with agile delivery models and full‑cycle engineering ownership.
