Job Description

Are you passionate about making a difference in the world through philanthropy? Do you have a proven track record of securing major gifts from high-net-worth individuals or organizations? Do you enjoy building long-term relationships with donors and connecting them to the causes they care about? If so, you might be the perfect candidate for the Senior Philanthropic Advisor / Major Gifts position at our organization.

As a Senior Philanthropic Advisor / Major Gifts, you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of at least 150 high-potential prospects. You will develop and implement customized moves management plans for each prospect, with the goal of soliciting and closing major outright gifts and complex gifts that drive revenue and support our mission. You will also steward existing donors and cultivate new ones through in-person visits, phone calls, video conferences, events, and other engagement strategies. You will work closely with senior leadership, program staff, and volunteers to articulate our business needs and values, including diversity and inclusion, and to align donor interests with our strategic priorities.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A bachelor’s degree or 6 years of proven major gift/ fundraising and high wealth donor cultivation experience
  • Working knowledge of development practices and principles of the sales cycle
  • Ability to develop genuine and authentic relationships with high-wealth prospects, older individuals, executives, and people with diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated skill in working within a complex environment at senior levels with strong capabilities in planning, organization, and management
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to craft compelling proposals and reports
  • Strong interpersonal, telephone, and video conferencing skills and confidence in asking for gifts from donors at a minimum of $25K.
  • Understanding of complex verbal or written instructions and data processing applications
  • Travel expectations for this role are 25-30% within the Washington
    DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia. Plus 4-5 visits to Memphis, TN.
  • Team player with a positive attitude who will immerse themselves within the area and connect high-wealth donors to the hospital and to local events
  • Serve as a relational mentor and subject matter expert for high-wealth donor portfolio work
  • Experience in effectively utilizing donor database management systems including Raiser’s Edge.
  • Event attendance expected at Events to cultivate donors
  • Driver's License: A valid driver's license is required for this role.
