Position Description:

Prototypes and delivers technical solutions using Machine Learning (ML), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and sophisticated data analytics. Deploys, scales, and maintains solutions to ensure longer-term adoption of said ML/AI technologies, utilizes open-source machine learning frameworks includes scikit-learn, PyTorch, and TensorFlow. Builds and hosts data pipelines, RESTful Application Program Interfaces (APIs), and front-end applications. Uses business knowledge to translate the vision for divisional initiatives into business solutions by developing complex or multiple software applications and conducting studies of alternatives. Analyzes and recommends changes in project development policies, procedures, standards, and strategies to development experts and management. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Participates in architecture design teams.
  • Defines and implements application level architecture.
  • Develops applications on complex projects, components, and subsystems for the division.
  • Recommends development testing tools and methodologies and reviews and validates test plans.
  • Responsible for QA readiness of software deliverables.
  • Develops comprehensive documentation for multiple applications or subsystems.
  • Establishes full project life cycle plans for complex projects across multiple platforms.
  • Responsible for meeting project goals on-time and on-budget.
  • Advises on risk assessment and risk management strategies for projects.
  • Plans and coordinates project schedules and assignments for multiple projects.
  • Acts as a primary liaison for business units to resolve various project/technology issues.
  • Provides technology solutions to daily issues and technical evaluation estimates on technology initiatives.
  • Advises senior management on technical strategy.
  • Mentors junior team members.
  • Performs independent and complex technical and functional analysis for multiple projects supporting several divisional initiatives.
  • Develops original and creative technical solutions to on-going development efforts.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and five (5) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) building ML models and pipelines in a natural language processing domain.

Or, alternatively, Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and three (3) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) building ML models and pipelines in a natural language processing domain.

Skills and Knowledge:

Candidate must also possess:

  • Demonstrated Expertise (“DE”) processing text data, extracting entities, and assigning part of speech using NLP libraries (Spacy and NLTK) in a natural language processing domain; building language models based on Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) and transformer architectures, using open source architecture (TensorFlow and Pytorch frameworks) in Python; and fine-tuning language models using transfer learning for classification and summarization tasks.  
  • DE building clustering models using k-Means, k-modes, or k-prototypes (for mixed data) and regression models, using open-source framework (scikit learn) in Python; and validating models by determining accuracy, recall, and fscore, confusion matrix and statistical techniques (p-value). 
  • DE building data (ETL) pipelines by building APIs to load data from external sources into Cloud-based data warehouses; automating data loading scripts using cronjob in Linux environment; and testing and validating APIs using postman client. 
  • DE extracting and transforming structured data (using SQL) and unstructured data (using NoSQL) to build ML models; and building dashboards using Tableau, Data Studio, or Power BI.
