About Trellis

Trellis is a profitable, fast-growing, Series A start-up backed by leading VC’s like General Catalyst, QED, NYCA, and Amex Ventures.

Join our mission to simplify and automate shopping for home and auto insurance.

Our ML-powered insurance recommendations, and our GenAI-powered conversational interface, enable us to insure everyday Americans faster, cheaper, and smarter.

We’re fully remote. We believe it allows us to find the best talent wherever it is, provide our team with maximum flexibility, and stand out to candidates.

Trellis is led by third-time fintech entrepreneur, Daniel Demetri, who has previously founded multiple fintech and insurtech startups that now operate as publicly-traded companies.

Our Values

  1. Extreme Ownership – We fulfill our promises to each other and to our customers. We own our responsibilities 110%.
  2. Speed – We work quickly and pragmatically. We move fast and get things done.
  3. Craft – We are constantly learning and bettering ourselves and the way we work.
  4. Collaboration – We work transparently, solicit feedback, and leave our egos at the door.
  5. Positivity – We see a cup half-full, focus on the team's potential, and rise to challenges.

About the role

Trellis is looking for an emerging leader to elevate how our company attracts, develops and retains top talent. The opportunity is perfect for someone who has contributed to scaling a People organization and is ready to take ownership of doing the same.

You’ll do this by working closely with senior leadership and functional leaders to define and execute a People strategy for the unique needs of our organization. This will include full employment lifecycle programs and processes from talent acquisition and onboarding, to professional development, performance management and employee engagement.

Importantly, you’ll need to do so while considering the important differences between teams like Product Management and Engineering versus front-line Sales and Service.

In this role, expect to

  • Work across the entire business, with teams like engineering, analytics and consumer operations

  • Co-develop and manage hiring plans to attract and hire high-performing individuals who align with our company culture and values

  • Design and implement performance management programs, including goal-setting, performance reviews, career-pathing, and professional development

  • Enhance our employee engagement program, making it a selling point for new employees

  • Take ownership of running our total rewards / employee benefits program

  • Implement strategies with consideration for the unique make-up of our workforce (i.e., traditional startup technical & business teams plus a fast-growing insurance sales team)

  • Be the subject matter expert for People-related compliance and own the day-to-day

To succeed in this role, you have

  • 6+ years professional experience in a startup or growth stage business

  • First hand experience building a people organization for rapid growth, ideally one with a “dual track” structure (e.g., corporate + agency)

  • Strategic acumen and outcome orientation; you know that the People function drives real, tangible business value and you can craft strategies around that

  • Ability to take an ambiguous problem, independently craft a work plan around it, and execute against that plan for 3-4 weeks at a time

  • Adaptability and empathy to build rapport with individuals in diverse functional areas and develop a deep understanding of their world

  • High energy, positive demeanor – you’ll often be the first face people see when they get introduced to Trellis and a regular “go-to” for team members at all levels

  • Low ego and a willingness to roll up your sleeves

You can address your application to Scott. In your response to what gets you excited about the role, use the final bullet to name the last song you heard on the radio (the actual radio).
