The Role and Team

eBay’s Tax team is seeking an experienced Tax Manager to join our U.S. Tax Controversy & Compliance function! In this role, you will lead and manage U.S. federal tax audits, including income tax, employment tax, and information reporting examinations. You will also play a key role in supporting U.S. domestic tax compliance and contributing to international tax planning initiatives.

This position offers broad exposure across tax functions and the opportunity to collaborate closely with internal stakeholders (tax, treasury, accounting), external advisors, and tax authorities. The role reports to the Senior Tax Manager, Tax Controversy & Strategy. You will be a critical member of a world-class tax team, collaborating closely with our internal and external tax technology experts to drive operational improvements in how we deliver tax services to our customers!

What You Will Accomplish:

  • Lead and manage U.S. federal tax audits, including income tax, employment tax, and information reporting matters
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with tax authorities, ensuring clear, professional, and timely communication
  • Prepare and review audit responses, supporting documentation, and technical analyses
  • Partner cross-functionally with tax, treasury, accounting, and external advisors to resolve audit issues
  • Support U.S. domestic tax compliance processes and initiatives
  • Contribute to international tax planning projects and strategic initiatives
  • Identify and implement process improvements to improve efficiency and effectiveness
  • Deliver high-quality work product while managing multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships across the organization
  • Develop and use AI tools to increase efficiency

What you Will Bring:

  • Dedication to working our Hybrid Model with 3+ days per week onsite at our Austin, Texas office with a willingness to travel to our San Jose, CA headquarters office on a quarterly basis.
  • Candidates for this position should have BA/BS in Accounting or Finance. A CPA is highly desirable as is a Master’s in Taxation.
  • A minimum of 6 years of federal tax compliance experience is required. Experience in US tax controversy role is desired, not required. 
  • Solid understanding of U.S. federal tax principles and procedures

  • Demonstrated ability to manage sophisticated projects and competing priorities
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills

Additional Details

The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:

$92,800 - $160,200

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
