About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Renewable Energy & Environmental Finance, Vice President, Technology & Technical Services to join the Renewable Energy and Environmental Financing Team.


In this role, you will:

  • Lead comprehensive technical diligence of various renewable energy projects (wind, solar, storage) to identify and mitigate risks to investment performance. Successful candidates will have professional experience with renewable energy generation/storage equipment, energy assessment, project technical design, contracting, construction and/or operations and practical understanding of project financing and associated transaction mechanics and contracts.
  • Knowledge of technical due diligence process includes project management, engagement and collaboration with REEF’s Owner’s Engineers, Independent Engineers and Clients. Tasks include conducting equipment technical due diligence, negotiating technical inputs to financing documents, leading internal and external technical meetings, managing third-party deliverables (technical Question/Answer logs, reports, etc.), analyzing technical materials (e.g. Independent Engineer and energy yield assessment reports), performing site visits to projects and factories, etc.  
  • Create and negotiate appropriate technical and commercial risk mitigation strategies in collaboration with the deal team.
  • Contribute to internal credit approval processes including writing credit memoranda and presenting the technical aspects of deals to senior management and credit officers.  
  • Collaborate and consult with diverse industry stakeholders to identify and resolve technical issues in support of investment goals.  Candidate is expected to develop and engage a strong network of relationships with project sponsors, independent engineers, consultants, equipment manufacturers, EPC/O&M contractors, and others.
  • Create and optimize diligence tools, standardize processes/job aids, manage vendors and proactively identify and undertake continuous improvement efforts, including application of automation tools.
  • Support the Portfolio Management team by providing internal technical consulting to address technical issues in REEF’s large portfolio of operating wind, solar, and storage assets as they arise.
  • Analyze REEF portfolio operational data to investigate project/technology performance, identify trends, and provide actionable feedback to both Origination and Portfolio Management teams.
  • Complete work in accordance with all risk management, compliance, and business process expectations.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Environmental Investment Origination experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education


Desired Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant Engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years’ experience in renewable energy/battery energy storage projects, engineering and/or financing.
  • Master’s degree in engineering or MBA considered a plus.
  • Experience leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and/or automation tools
  • Demonstrated proficiency in working in a highly focused, collaborative and fast-paced team environment with a sense of personal accountability and urgency for achieving results.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in handling multiple projects and deadlines with strong organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills with ability to develop rapport and credibility with senior bank management, credit officers and sponsors.
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to solve complex or abstract problems.
  • Advanced in Microsoft Office Suite-Excel, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint.


Job Expectations:

  • Hybrid work model, four days in the office and one day remote per week.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time.
  • Physical ability to perform visits to wind/solar/storage construction sites (ability to climb wind turbines for inspection is a plus).

Pay Range:  

Pay Range: $185,000 - $300,000 USD annual (this range may not be applicable to other locations)
