PayPal is seeking a talented and experienced leader to head our Commerce AI/ML team, driving the development of AI-driven solutions that will shape the future of PayPal. As the Head of ML, you will lead a team of ML Scientists and be responsible for managing a portfolio of ML solutions, including personalization, recommendation, and ranking of millions of products on PayPal App. You will be building and defining the next generation shopping discovery destination leveraging the power of PayPal’s two-sided network.

PayPal is seeking a talented and experienced leader to head our Commerce AI/ML team, driving the development of AI-driven solutions that will shape the future of PayPal. As the Head of ML, you will lead a team of ML Scientists and be responsible for managing a portfolio of ML solutions, including personalization, recommendation, and ranking of millions of products on PayPal AppYou will be building and defining the next generation shopping discovery destination leveraging the power of PayPal’s two-sided network.

Your day to day:

  • Lead the team in charge of Development of Recommender Systems leveraging cutting edge AI/ML techniques, such as graph neural networks and deep learning models.
  • Define an end-to-end vision for domain, including Signal Collection, Consumer Embedding, Product and Merchant Embeddings and retrieval/ranking pipelines. 
  • Leverage GenAI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Llamma to accelerate development of recommendation models.
  • Communicate complex concepts and the results of models and analyses to both technical and non-technical audiences. Influencing partners including VP+ product stakeholders.
  • Work in close partnership with our engineering group and PayPal's Platforms organization and drive the adoption of ML/AI solutions throughout the organization.
  • Hire, Build and Groom the next generation of leaders and manage an existing top-performing team.

This position is hybrid and requires in-office presence about 2 days a week in our San Jose, CA Headquarters.
 

What do you need to bring:

  • Strong background in Machine Learning with practical experience in building and implementing large-scale predictive models and recommendation systems.
  • Expertise in Customer Facing AI/ML Recommendation applications on a large-scale consumer-facing app. 
  • Preferred to have industry expertise in e-commerce recommendations, Ads relevance or other related applications.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to influence partners and customers with your insights and expertise.
  • Ability to groom both senior IC and Manage Managers. 
  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or related fields.
