Part-Time Lecturer for AP6411 Foundation for Art and Creativity

AP6411 Foundation for Art and Creativity is a 13-week introductory course that establishes fundamental concepts in artistic ideation, creative thinking, visual development, and motion principles. Designed for students without prior experience, the course focuses on artistic fundamentals—including shapes, composition, color, lighting, and the drawing of movement—alongside lateral thinking exercises. Students progress from initial creative explorations to developing a comprehensive suite of visual development assets for a prospective game, ensuring all work aligns with a specific thematic style and demonstrates technical proficiency.

Applicants to this position will be able to demonstrate expertise in teaching fundamental studio art and ideation techniques, with a strong ability to evaluate and mentor students in original "hand-rendered" artistic proficiency. Applicants will be able to demonstrate passion in guiding students through the transition from "creative thinking" to "visual development," helping them find their unique creative flair. Critically, the successful candidate must be able to navigate the pedagogical challenges of Generative AI, ensuring students develop core technical competencies and ethical creative habits before or alongside the use of automated tools.

Candidates should have a relevant Master’s and/or PhD in Fine Arts, Visual Communications, Illustration, or Concept Art with a track record of creative practice that demonstrates both strong lateral thinking and technical rendering skills. Past teaching experience at the Undergraduate Level, particularly in foundational or "101" level courses, is preferred. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and significant industry experience (such as Concept Artist, Visual Development Artist, or Art Director) may also be considered in exceptional cases.
