Cardiovascular technicians use various imaging tools to help physicians identify and diagnose issues with the heart and the surrounding blood vessels. This includes non-invasive procedures such as echocardiography (imaging the heart) and vascular ultrasound (imaging the blood vessels), as well as some invasive procedures such as cardiovascular catheterization, stent insertion, balloon angioplasty, and implanting pacemakers. This position does not include EEG testing.

A caregiver in this position works 3:00pm – 11:30pm.  

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Perform 12-lead Electrocardiograms, Holter Monitor Hook-Ups and Cardiac Stress Testing, including 24 hour, 48 hour, and 30 day event monitors, and/or EEG testing. 

  • Notify physicians, nurses or managers of abnormal results. 

  • Notify secretaries of needed supplies. 

  • Maintain equipment and notify Clinical Engineering of ongoing problems that cannot be resolved. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High school diploma/GED.  

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).  

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Completion of a cardiac technician and/or EEG program.  

  • Credentials as an allied health professional.  

  • Six months of experience as an ECG technician.  

  • Six months of experience in stress testing.

Physical Requirements:

  • Hand dexterity sufficient to handle ECG equipment and Holter monitors.
  • Standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • May be required to lift up the 25 pounds.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
