General Area of Responsibility:

1. The Chief Engineer reports to the Master.

2. Responsible for executing tug maintenance on board in accordance with the planned maintenance schedule and budget

3. Maintenance and repair of marine plant and equipment;

4. Supervision of personnel undertaking and assisting in the engineering function;

5. Signing off on maintenance work completed;

6. Preparation of maintenance and operational reports as required;

7. Participation in safety training, including the training of other crew members;

8. Assisting other engineers as required;

9. Monitoring and review of relevant occupational health and safety standards and procedures and reporting as appropriate;

10. Ensuring day to day compliance with relevant environmental regulations;

11. Participation in operational improvement exercises and liaison with SVITZER management regarding improved operational procedures,

leading to a culture of continuous improvement.

12. Daily correct use and maintenance of all machinery, safety and environment protection equipment

13. The correct keeping of Engine Logbook and Oil Record Book (when applicable)

14. Comply with local, regional, national and international legislation.

15. Responsible for all bunker and internal oil transfers according to Bunkering of Fuel and Oils and Internal Transfer of Bunkers or Oil

Products

16. Comply with the regulations of the company safety management system.

17. Where required through local working arrangements; To perform operational duties, as required and directed, related to all tasks of the

vessel including mooring/unmooring and tow line connection/disconnection.

18. Induction training of visitors, employees and other persons authorized by SVITZER to access the vessel where a Master or Deck Officer

is unavailable.

Specific Area of Responsibility:

Chief Engineer oversees and responsible for all the machinery aboard ship. He is a key member of the onboard crew, overseeing the entire Marine engineering department on the vessel and responsible for the maintenance and operation of all engineering equipment onboard the vessel. Reporting to the Master and Port Engineer, the chief engineer will be responsible for the efficient safe operation and upkeep of Company vessels operating primarily in Ras Laffan port meeting all engineering, marine, and operational and safety obligations. The Chief

Engineer shall ensure that all publications and documents relating to the Safety Management System in the engine department are current and filed.

1. Responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of all machinery and equipment onboard the vessels.

2. Carry out all administrative tasks as required by company procedures.

3. Work under guidelines as specified by the Master.

4. Assist in any other aspects of operations as directed by the Master, including maintenance and, pollution control etc.

5. Ensuring the planned maintenance system of the Company is carried out and up to date.

6. Maintaining sufficient bunkers and other essential engine related stores and consumables.

7. Monitoring the consumption of fuel and lubricants.

8. Personally supervising the safe and efficient loading and transferring of bunkers.

10. Assisting with the preparation of dry-docking specifications, and with the supervision of repairs and structural alterations and compile dry

dock job list.

11. The control of all engine plans and instruction manuals and ensuring all are kept up to date.

12. The completion of the Oil Record Book (Part 1) as per the instructions contained in the book also as per IMO circular

(MEPC.1)/CIRC.736/REV.2 6 OCTOBER 2011

13. Completion of the Company’s maintenance forms and forwarding to the Port Engineer as per procedures.

14. The daily inspection of the machinery onboard. The Chief Engineer is to sign the Engine Room Logbook daily to show that the

inspections have been undertaken.

15. The testing of all emergency stand-by machinery and recording such tests in the Engine Room Logbook.

16. The general condition and maintenance of thrusters, auxiliary equipment and air conditioning etc.

17. To maintain the planned maintenance system such as Sertica program ,recording the defects and scheduled jobs also the closeout for

the same.

18. Supervision of personnel undertaking and assisting in the engineering function

19. Participation in safety training, including the training of other crew member

20. Preparation of operational and maintenance reports as required

21. Ensuring day to day compliance with relevant environment regulations

22. Monitoring and review of relevant occupational health and safety standards and procedures and reporting as appropriate

23. Participation in operational improvement exercises and liaison with Svitzer management regarding improved operational procedures,

leading to a culture of continuous improvement

24. Familiar with HMS and navigation within the system such as Pro- active participation in HMS not limited to.

25. Record of all events, bulletins, flashes and updated company procedure at handover

26. Carry out familiarization to reliver Chief engineer and newly joined engine ratings

Required/Preferred Education and competencies:

Valid Seafarer Medical Certificate

Valid Seaman Book

Valid COC endorsement

Possession of STCW Certification (A-III/2)

Advanced Fire Fighting (STCW A-VI/3)

Advanced Personal Survival, Search and Rescue (STCW A-VI/1-1.1)

Proficiency Survival Craft and Rescue Boat (STCW A-VI/2)

Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities (STCW A-VI/1-4)

Basic Safety Training (STCW A-VI/1 Manila)

Ship Security Awareness (STCW A VI/6)

Prevention and Combating of Marine Pollution

Medical First Aid (STCW A-VI/4-1)
