General Description:

Under the general direction of the Director of Pharmacy, the Pharmacy Technician – Regulatory and Compliance is responsible for the oversight and compliance of regulatory standards across OU Health.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

·       Conduct routine inspections of patient care units and other areas of the institution where medications are dispensed, administered, and/ or stored.

·       Ensure compliance with all OU Health, State and Federal regulations, including but not limited to, The Joint Commission, The Oklahoma State Health Department, and The Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy.

·       Collaborate with nursing and hospital staff to address audit/inspection findings in a timely manner with an appropriate action plan if necessary.

·       Actively participate in the implementation, process evaluation, and compliance of The Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals involving medication storage and medication storage related regulatory requirements.

·       Accurately report audit/inspection findings through the use of appropriate reporting mechanisms to the necessary committees and leaders.

·       Ensure integrity of medications by assuring storage under proper conditions of refrigeration and security.

·       Coordinate with the pharmacy staff to maintain and improve the safety and integrity of pharmacy dispensing processes.

·       Provide input for policies and procedures to promote safe medication storage.

·       Maintains outdated medication tracking, ensuring appropriate expiration dates are entered, stock is rotated, and expired items removed.

·       Ensure integrity of emergency cart lock, logs, and emergency cart expiration dates.

·       Maintain logs, records, and other documentation in an organized manner

·       Prevent unsafe and unsanitary practices and conditions.

·       Checks and records refrigerator temperatures and logs.

·       Maintains compliance with all OU Health policies and procedures.

 

General Responsibilities:

·       Performs other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: None

Experience: 2 years pharmacy experience required (hospital preferred)

Licensure/Certifications/Registrations Required: Permit as a pharmacy technician by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy when eligible within the first six weeks after placement in the position. Certified Pharmacy Technician from Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) within 1 year of start date.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

·       Good computer skills.

·       Good interpersonal skills for developing effective working relationships with staff and coworkers.

·       Knowledge of pharmacy and medication protocols

·       Knowledge of pharmacy regulatory compliance

·       Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.

·       Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

·       Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions
