The Digital S/W Eng Lead Analyst is a strategic professional who stays abreast of developments within own field and contributes to directional strategy by considering their application in own job and the business. Job Description – C13 | Lead Engineer, APIGEE Platform & Onboarding

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, onboarding, and lifecycle management of APIs on the Apigee API Management platform, ensuring security, scalability, and performance best practices.
  • Define and drive the Apigee onboarding strategy for new applications and teams, serving as the primary platform lead and point of escalation.
  • Implement and manage NGINX configurations for routing, load balancing, and traffic management across environments.
  • Design and govern RESTful API standards, policies, and patterns across the enterprise API landscape.
  • Collaborate with product owners, architects, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust API-driven technical solutions.
  • Drive API modernization initiatives, including migration of legacy integrations to Apigee-managed, cloud-ready architectures.
  • Ensure adherence to Citi's engineering standards, security controls, and governance frameworks.
  • Perform API and configuration reviews, enforce platform best practices, and mentor junior developers and senior engineers.
  • Support CI/CD pipelines, release management, and production stability, including L3 support when required.
  • Proactively identify performance bottlenecks, scalability issues, and operational risks within the API gateway layer, and implement corrective actions.
  • Partner with global teams across regions to deliver high-quality, enterprise-grade API solutions.

Required Qualifications

  • 12–14 years of professional experience in platform engineering or API management within large-scale enterprise environments.
  • Deep hands-on expertise in Apigee API Management — including proxy development, policy configuration, developer portals, and platform governance.
  • Proven experience with NGINX for reverse proxy, routing, and traffic control.
  • Strong understanding of RESTful API design principles, microservices architecture, and distributed systems.
  • Demonstrated experience leading API onboarding programs for enterprise teams and applications.
  • Experience working in agile development methodologies (Scrum / Kanban).
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently on complex platform and integration issues.
  • Excellent communication skills with experience collaborating with global and cross-functional teams.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, Git, Maven) and DevOps practices.
    • Exposure to containerization and cloud platforms (Docker, OpenShift, PCF, or equivalent).
    • Experience in financial services or banking domain preferred.
    • Prior experience in application support and regulatory‑driven environments is a plus.

    Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
    • Relevant certifications in Java, Cloud, or API technologies are an advantage.
