The role of a Senior Platform Engineer is to design, build, run & evolve the tools, infrastructure, templates and capabilities that we use to deliver business value, and to write code that automates running our infrastructure and environments.

 

The Technology division delivers the Group’s information technology and banking operation functions to ensure the highest levels of customer service through world-class process excellence and technology innovation. Cyber Security protects the bank and our customers from theft, loss, and risk events through effective and proactive management of cyber security, privacy, physical and operational risk.

 

This exciting opportunity is for someone that can bring strong DevSecOps and Cloud platform engineering expertise, with a focus on embracing and fostering new skills across the Protective Security and Business Resilience engineering capability.

As an experienced Senior Platform/Cloud Engineer you will be joining the Protective Security and Business Resilience (PSBR) Technology Team, which is part of CommBank’s wider Group Security business unit within Technology.

 

The PSBR Tech team delivers, manages, and holds accountability over a number of technologies and services for our business stakeholders. They define the technology strategy and roadmap, build strong partnerships with stakeholders and deliver on agreed run and change priorities, while being accountable for defined outcomes. This team provides a vital function across CommBank’s complex protective security landscape and works closely with the business, vendor partners and other teams within Technology.

• Work well in teams and have strong collaboration skills in driving continuous improvement.
• Experience in mentoring team members to upskill and develop their understanding of ways of working and engineering best practices.
• Have extensive experience with DevSecOps delivery using Agile practices with specific focus on the following concepts: source control, CI/CD, automated testing, logging and monitoring.
• Be a SME on Cloud - especially AWS.
• Have a sound understanding of software engineering fundamentals and best practices.
• Drive automation through understanding processes and implementing improvements.
• Take ownership of issues and follow through with end-to-end resolution of issues and challenges.
• Have experience in managing enterprise technology across a complex IT landscape.
• Display a willingness to continuously learn new tools and technologies.
• Have solid experience in managing the operational health and governance of IT Services.
• Have previous experience in technical incidents resolution, partner with key stakeholders and suppliers to manage and resolve service-related incidents, risks, issues and problems.

 

Tech Skills:

We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don’t expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these (or equivalents) will set you up for success in this team:

• Familiarity with platform engineering concepts, including automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
• Advanced knowledge of CI/CD tools such as GitHub, Team city (or Jenkins), Ansible, Artifactory and Octopus.
• Advanced experience with scripting or programming languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, or Python).
• Understanding of Windows and/or Linux server environments.
• Exposure to Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., Terraform, AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or Ansible).
• Interest in containerisation and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Willingness to learn observability tools (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus, Obstack, Splunk).
