JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Machine Operator fills in during breaks and lunch periods; also, runs the line when the operator is not present. Coordinate and facilitate the daily operations on the assigned line to maximize all available resources. Coordinate the operational activities with input and interaction from a variety of sources. Evaluate the operations processes and systems and identifies opportunities for continuous improvement by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure timely set up for daily operations.
- Make sure the proper supplies are available for the day’s production.
- Must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Fill in for operator and help with the rotation for breaks and lunches.
- Communicate changeovers to employees working on the line.
- Regularly check the registration and code dates ensuring that the UPC and spec code of the boxes, labels, and films matches the product being packed.
- Make sure the line follows compliance with all company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor quality output of line by performing hourly quality checks and recording findings on check sheets to ensure product meets quality standards.
- Ensure all equipment is running properly to get maximum efficiency and throughput.
- Demonstrate effective communication with Maintenance, Quality Assurance (QA) and Shipping with regards to daily priorities, troubleshooting, etc.
- Assist in setting line’s start and shutdown schedule to maximize efficiency and resources.
- Responsible for the product flow of the lines and will coordinate with other lines as needed to facilitate product flow and increase potential yield output.
- Ensure all safety requirements are being met.
- Lead the paperwork recording process and demonstrate the ability to lead the line meetings.
- Ensure all employees are in the assigned areas at startup, breaks, etc. and the ability to bring issues to the Operator, Packaging Operator and/or Shift Supervisor to be addressed.
- Ensure timely completion of administrative tasks as assigned by the Shift Supervisor and/or Pack Operator.
- Demonstrate ability to interpret department results, identify root cause issues, unidentified lost utilization, action planning, and make recommendations for adjustments.
- Daily monitoring of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), employee safety, food safety, employee issues and training opportunities.
- Ensure good housekeeping and address deficiencies.
- It is an essential function to report to work as scheduled on a daily basis.
- Able to recognize employee concerns, conflict, and bring issues to the Pack Operator and/or Shift Supervisor in a timely manner.
- Able to troubleshoot, identify, or correct line specific setup, teardown, machine faults, settings, and operator level adjustments. When possible assist maintenance in the daily Preventive Maintenance (PM) of nonscheduled lines.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
