Department Description
This role sits within the global Manufacturing, Energy and Industrials (MEI) M&BD team, which consists of two sectors:
Manufacturing and Industrials Sector (M&I): Our team works with manufacturers, distributors, conglomerates, producers, transporters, construction and engineering firms, chemical companies, governments and others operating across complex local, regional, and global environments. Our lawyers provide sophisticated legal solutions concerning evolving infrastructure, international trade, distributed value chains, environmental regulations, trade secrets, corporate transactions, disputes, and more.
Energy Sector: We work with energy clients to close complex transactions, develop and finance energy projects, navigate regulation, resolve disputes, and protect their intellectual property. We advise across the energy spectrum, including power, renewables, oil, gas, LNG, nuclear generation, mining and metals, and all issues relating to the energy transition.
You will be part of a well-established global M&BD team which supports the firm on a wide range of business development, marketing and client relationship management activities.
Role Overview
We seek a capable and enthusiastic M&BD Manager who will lead our global Manufacturing and Industrials (M&I) Sector while working with the broader MEI team to support group strategy.
This role is integral in helping to drive forward our Manufacturing & Industrials sector and a number of the firm's key client relationships, to ensure that we:
maximise our opportunities to grow our revenues from existing and prospective clients across the practice and industry groups;
raise the firm’s profile and position within our key markets; and
leverage and coordinate our people, knowledge and resources in an effective and efficient manner.
This will involve ensuring a structured approach to client outreach, developing thought leadership, pitching, profile raising, client development and targeting, knowledge development and marketing campaigns on a global basis. The role will also include significant exposure to the energy sector given synergies and overlapping projects and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities
Industry sector planning and budgeting
Working with the global Manufacturing & Industrials Sector Heads, and Sub-sector Leads on the creation and implementation of business plans and budgets, as well as regularly monitoring and reporting on progress.
Ensure the sector and sub sectors are managing marketing spend effectively and in line with budget.
Delivering meaningful market analysis as required to support the planning process.
Client development and targeting
Supporting the sector on client targeting initiatives and analysis.
Working with sector leadership and CRPs to actively identify new ideas and business opportunities (products; solutions; industry knowledge; value added services, training) to take to clients, to help deepen and develop relationships.
Supporting the firm’s key client program by acting as client account manager (CAM) to at least one of the sector’s major clients.
Pitching and new business generation
Leading in the production of strategic pitches for the sector, sometimes working with the Pitch team and other M&BD colleagues.
Providing input to other pitches, and promoting pitching best practice with partners and colleagues to ensure materials are consistently client-focused, compliant, and easy to evaluate.
Writing and producing other bespoke materials for the practice, including client presentations.
Collating and maintaining information on pitches for the firm wide pitch systems; monitor success rates and make recommendations for improvements.
Undertaking and maintaining post pitch feedback where appropriate.
Profile raising and marketing campaigns
Planning and managing the implementation of marketing communications programmes in support of the sector group plans, including thought leadership campaigns, targeted seminars and events, external conference attendance, etc.
Supporting on directory and award submissions for the sector.
Collaborating with other M&BD teams including practice groups, sector groups, and the PR team to cross sell capabilities and credentials, and raise the profile of the sector and individual partners.
Knowledge Sharing
Creating and maintaining a suite of standard targeting materials for use by global teams, including credentials documents and ‘Grab and Go’ pitch content.
Liaising and working closely with Knowledge Lawyers to leverage know-how and identify appropriate communications and BD opportunities.
Evaluating the analytics of marketing activities and projects undertaken, and advising the M&BD team of positive feedback and where improvements can be made.
Wider M&BD projects
Special projects (e.g. website review, credentials review)– management and delivery.
Contributing to the wider business development effort, which will include participating in specific firm wide BD initiatives and projects as required.

Skills and Experience
Essential
Strong experience working in a marketing and business development role in a legal or similar professional services firm.
Experience working with international teams and stakeholders.
Experience managing multi-faceted projects, campaigns, and pitches.
Desired
Experience working with international teams and stakeholders.
Prior knowledge and experience of working with clients within the Manufacturing & Industrials, and/or Energy sectors would be advantageous.
Qualifications and Training

Candidates must be educated to degree level or equivalent.
