Nursing Clinical Clerical - Postpartum Unit

Fairview Hospital's Birthing Services help over 4,000 expectant families bring their babies into the world each year. Caregivers in the 4 North Postpartum Unit specialize in caring for patients during the period after childbirth. This team helps patients navigate through major body and emotional changes while also monitoring patients for symptoms or severe conditions  


A caregiver in this position works 7:00AM – 7:30PM.  


A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Provide patient care under the direction of an RN.  

  • Assist with data collection and treatments.  

  • Perform administrative functions for the unit.  

  • Observe and report changes in patients’ condition.  

  • Document activities in the patient care record.  

  • Assist with transporting and discharging patients.  

  • Transcribe and process all orders.  

  • Prepare, maintain and process all charts, filed, records and mail.  

  • Maintain inventory.  


Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • A high school diploma or GED.  

  • Nursing students: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA). All other applicants are required to obtain this within the new hire period.  

  • Basic computer skills.  


Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Completion of a medical assistance course.  

  • State Tested Nurse Assistant (STNA).  

  • Previous healthcare and patient care experience in a hospital.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.

  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
