Job Description Summary

The Technology & Innovation Center (HTIC) is GE HealthCare’s global innovation engine, operating through two major hubs (Niskayuna, NY, USA & Bangalore, India) with a highly specialized, multidisciplinary team spanning imaging physics, microelectronics, AI, biosciences, magnetics, robotics, materials science, and advanced system engineering. HTIC’s purpose is to drive disruptive innovation that delivers step change performance improvements in current platforms while pioneering next generation and cross segment technologies that lead to new business opportunities. HTIC also proposes and wins external grant awards, typically from the US government (NIH, BARDA, ARPA-H, etc.). This role will lead a team of technical experts in the mechatronics, sensors, instrumentation and robotics. They will own the technical delivery required for research and technology projects and will collaborate across GEHC with strategic leaders, technology directors and scientists to develop key strategies, leading to GEHC successful business outcomes. They will lead strategic research & technology initiatives in advanced mechatronics, sensor systems, instrumentation and robotics to enable next-generation healthcare devices. Drive development of precision motion systems and integrated sensing solutions that enhance diagnostic accuracy and operational efficiency. Define and execute technology roadmaps that align with GE HealthCare’s mission and product strategies, ensuring seamless integration across multiple modalities. Foster innovation by blending robotics, instrumentation, and multidisciplinary research to deliver breakthrough capabilities for connected healthcare.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

Strategic Research Leadership

  • Work closely with Strategic leaders, other Technology Directors, HTIC and GEHC leadership to develop/refine the vision and strategy.  Define and execute technology roadmaps for mechatronics, sensing, and robotics.  This will provide long term connection and alignment with other Technology Directors, HTIC and GEHC strategies.

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of scientists and engineers across mechatronics, sensing, and robotics disciplines, pushing the envelope of what’s possible.

  • Resource planning - Continuously evaluate capacity and capability depth and breadth required to advance HTIC’s ability to positively impact GEHC.  Participate in annual resource capability evaluation and planning efforts to align resource needs with strategies developed in WWTP and WWPP.

  • Collaborate with clinical researchers and HTIC scientists to align innovations with clinical needs so that solutions will be outcome focused.  Support projects funded by GEHC and by the US Government.

  • Strengthen innovation pipeline through IP and thought leadership, adding value to GEHC at every step in the research process.

  • Responsibilities include driving organizational strategy, ensuring operational excellence (safety & compliance, finance, resource planning) & enabling project execution.

  • Own team technical and operation functions within the discipline; this will include all elements of strategy definition, goal setting, recruiting, safety & compliance, finance, resource planning, operating rhythms and project execution

  • Enable technology program execution and technology transition meeting deliverables, budgets, and schedules, while also contributing technically to projects

  • Provide focused operational coaching (project/program management, Lean principles, etc.) and career coaching.

  • Recruit top talent, provide mentoring, coaching, and development opportunities to grow team members

  • Represent and promote Healthcare R&D in the community

  • Continuous improvement through standard work, KPIs, and process improvements

Business Alignment

  • Build relationships with key GEHC stakeholders that will provide visibility to HTIC work and collaboration opportunities.

  • Drive and own technical roadmaps in domain, ensuring alignment across engineering, product, and business leadership.

  • Serve as an interdisciplinary problem solver who translates adjacent technical and business considerations into solutions for high-impact challenges.

External Partnerships & Ecosystem Impact

  • Secure external funding and partnerships that materially advance GEHC’s strategic technology roadmaps and elevate GEHC’s presence in the global innovation ecosystem.

Quality, Regulatory, and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with GEHC quality, regulatory, and EHS standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, or a closely related field.

  • 10+ years of technical leadership experience in mechatronics, sensing technologies, and instrumentation for healthcare or high-precision applications.

  • Proven track record in developing advanced motion systems, sensor integration, and/or monitoring devices.

  • Demonstrated success in securing external funding (e.g., NIH, DARPA, ARPA-H) and managing grant compliance.

  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and collaborating with clinical researchers.

  • Strong publication and intellectual property portfolio in mechatronics, robotics, and/or sensing domains.

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills; ability to influence across functions and organizations.

  • People leadership experience including identifying, recruiting, developing and retaining talent and building a positive team culture

We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening. For U.S. based positions only, the pay range for this position is $164,000.00-$246,000.00 Annual. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the pay range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including skills, qualifications, experience and location. In addition, this position may also be eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
