POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Field Service Engineer (Optical)
DIV/DEPARTMENT NAME: Metrology and Analysis Systems Division (MAD)
REPORTS TO: Optical Inspection Service Manager
POSITION STATUS: Full-Time
WORK LOCATION: Leixlip, Ireland
FLSA STATUS (E or N): Non-Exempt
TRAVEL REQUIRED: Less than 20% (domestic and international)

The Field Service Engineer (SFSE; Optical) is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of Hitachi Optical Inspection equipment at the customer site. FSE’s maintain the following sub systems: electronic, electrical, mechanical, laser, optical, pneumatic, and point-to-point robots, and wafer transfer systems.
The FSE provides the following customer support functions:
- Supports all customer requirements including daily pass down
- Meets availability requirements and improves PM efficiency
- Timely and regular communication to the customer and TSG during issue troubleshooting and repairs
- Supports technical escalations and utilizes problem-solving documentation to report on escalation activity.
- On Call support
- Attention to critical and chronic product issues
- Responds to issues promptly with a defined resolution/action plan, due dates, and personal accountability
- Provides proactive independent support, avoiding multiple requests from management
- Provides training to other engineers and/or customers
- Completes all paperwork and admin functions ahead of deadlines per established guidelines

- Protect and maintain company property (i.e., traveling inventory, company care, test equipment, tools, etc.)
- Respond to service calls from customers in a timely manner, per service department policies
- Set and keep appropriate schedules for service on the assigned equipment
- Maintain appropriate records of all work performed and training received
- Provide highly detailed documentation for the purpose of problem resolution and/or engineer training
- Provide training to less experienced engineers
- Drive to multiple customer sites and Hitachi High Technology America (HTA) offices as directed by management
- Portray professionalism and pride in appearance while conforming to policy
- Provide a positive attitude to all employees and customers
- Complete assigned On the Job Training (OJT), with the goal of instrument certification
- Manage and maintain traveling inventory according to department policy and procedure
- Flexible working hours that occasionally includes authorization to work from home or work off-site
- Complete assigned formal training with a grade of 80% or better on all tests
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times, especially when interacting with other employees, management, and customers

EDUCATION, LICENSES, and/or CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electronics Engineer, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical or Chemistry (or other STEM related field)
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience, such as military or semiconductor industry experience.
EXPERIENCE and TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
- Preferred industry/product/education related experience:
- Patterned and/or un-patterned brightfield/darkfield optical defect review systems experience
- Optics and alignments, Lasers, Mechanical Systems, Robotics, Advanced Calibration Techniques, Electronics, Software
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience using test equipment such as: digital volt meters, oscilloscopes, hand tools, and computers
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience disassembling and assembling intricate parts as related to selected instruments
- Willingness to travel: approximately 20% domestic and/or internationally
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and/or ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS
- Basic Knowledge and understanding of Physics and Chemistry
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision
- Ability to comply and adhere to company policies
- Must be eligible for and receive company credit card
- Knowledge of analog and digital circuitry as applied to our equipment
- Must have and retain a valid driver’s license in resident State, have an acceptable driving record, and be insurable by our insurance company
- Demonstrate strong work ethic
- Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills with management, co-workers, internal and external customers
- Ability to effectively communicate information to customers and manager regarding service activities and schedules
- Ability to work without instructions
- Ability to perform moderately complex service calls relating to instruments learned
- Ability to complete system installation including Advanced Customer Training
- Ability to perform OJT or classroom training to other Field Service Engineers on basic system level troubleshooting
- Ability to work from schematics using various test equipment and mathematical calculations specific to electronics
- Ability to effectively interface with customers, service department personnel and others
- Ability to provide preventive maintenance and emergency service on several instruments or product lines
- Ability to completely install specified instruments
- Ability to give Advanced Customer training
