Job Description:

The Tax Specialist assists in managing tax reporting, tax/regulatory audits, tax planning and tax compliance function. Oversees the completion of accurate tax reports to ensure management has complete picture of all the companies’ tax obligations.  Must have working knowledge of the tax regulations, policies and culture at the national and local levels. 

Major accountabilities:

Tax Operations and Advisory

  • Prepare tax calculations, provisioning, returns and supports and provide support insofar as external audit requirements are concerned.
  • Handle complex tax issues/concerns of Business Units.
  • Coordinate across Business Units on complex tax matters, transactions, including review and advise implications of tax provisions on material contracts.
  • Assists in preparing responses to Regional / Corporate Office Questionnaires and Attestations, Quarterly BOD Reports.
  • Handle other ad hoc tax management engagements.

Tax Compliance

  • Provide relevant and timely tax trainings and updates to business representatives, internal stakeholders and as needed, selected external stakeholders
  • Lead and manage Tax Compliance Reviews
  • Review of the Group’s Transfer Pricing Reports, and handle coordination among Business Units in preparing reconciliations needed in transfer pricing documentations.
  • Participate in tax planning, analysis, accounting and reporting in line with existing tax rules, newly issued / draft regulations as well as pertinent Philippine Financial Reporting Standards (PFRS) local reporting, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) group reporting as well as relevant management reporting requirements.

Tax Audits, Assessments and External Relationships

  • Prepare relevant reports to support regulatory audits.
  • Provide Management timely updates and in-depth analyses of various courses of action available in relation to regulatory audits.

Tax Initiatives

  • Regular review and update of process documentations, tax treatments, improvements and tax savings strategies.
  • Assist in crafting tax operational guidelines and policies.
  • Support various tax savings and optimization projects.

Qualifications:

1. A university degree specializing in Accountancy.

2. Must be a Certified Public Accountant

3. Law school graduate an advantage

4. Has been in relevant tax practice for at least four (4) years with experience in handling tax reporting, audits and consultancy work gained from professional firms (Preferably big 4 accountancy firm or law firm)

5. Relevant work experience in the life insurance, trust and mutual fund industry an advantage.

Specialized knowledge:

1. Advanced knowledge of Philippine taxation.

2. Accuracy and attention to detail. Able to timely meet internal and/or external deadlines.

3. Strong organizational, process management/maintenance skills, and a self-starter with ability to work independently.

4. Advanced verbal and written communications skills plus good listening skills. 5. Advanced analytical, comprehension and presentation skills.

6. Proficiency in use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
