Position Highlights:

  • Position: High Level Disinfection & Sterilization (HLDS) Support Specialist, Sterile Processing Department 
  • Location: Home base-Skokie Hospital
  • Full Time/Part Time: Full Time (40 hours per week)
  • Hours: 2:00-10:30pm Monday through Friday
  • Required Travel: Must be willing to travel to other sites as needed (Highland Park, Glenview, Evanston, Skokie, Northwest Community Hospital)
  • Bonus: 5K Sign On


A Brief Overview:
◊ The HLDS Support Specialist:
◊ Supports and manages the business / operational needs of identified areas with High Level Disinfection / Sterilization (HLDS).
◊ Provides support in the development of reports that provide a trend analysis in the areas of: budgets, statistics, capital requests, patient satisfaction surveys and strategic plans.
◊ Works with SPD Leadership to develop, interact, and apply department, division and corporate policies, develop and manage processes/policies associated statistical action plans and outcomes of strategic business plans.
◊ Performs all financial reconciliation and variance analysis as well as proformas required for strategic plans.
◊ Reports directly to Manager, HLDS Operations
◊ Works directly with SPD Leadership team to accomplish goals.
◊ Works collaboratively with the SPD and Perioperative Services leadership team
◊ Compliance with overall strategic plans, financial reconciliation, variance analysis.


What you will do:

  • Identifies problems, recommends changes, and brings solutions to the attention of the Managers and Director of Sterile Processing on issues relating to service, staffing, operations, and expansion.
  • Coordinates and analyzes various sources of information and data for decision-making purposes.
  • Coordinates new equipment requests and audits the manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFU)
  • Develops and implements tactical plans for operations improvement and / or departmental growth.
  • Completes special projects as assigned.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Assures availability and integrity of technological and biomedical devices.
  • Knowledge of relevant software applications and able to maximize effectiveness.
  • Knowledge of technical Northshore University HealthSystemancements available to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Monitors and analyzes staffing and resource utilization.
  • Collaborates with Sr. Director of Nursing to develop / implement and follow up on action plans for fiscal management.
  • Provides education and in-services as needed to ensure adequate and clear understanding of financial status for leadership team.
  • Provides analysis of reported data and recommendations for improvement.
  • Works collaboratively with key contacts in individual work units.
  • Maintains departmental records, staffing and personnel files.
  • Performs regular audits in all areas that perform components of HLDS
  • Runs reports on quality and compliance - regularly assists with HLDS Tracers
  • Coordinates logistics for support services related to HLDS (vendors, staff, etc)
  • Analyzes interdepartmental and intradepartmental coordination.
  • Facilitates all JCAHO and IDPH regulatory survey and response activities as directed.
  • Assures appropriateness and integrity, as well as preventive maintenance, of equipment devices and furniture to patient and family needs.
  • Maintains environment of care compliance in all assigned areas.
  • Serves on committees and task forces as assigned.
  • Participates in staff meetings as necessary.
  • Participates in manager and supervisor meetings as needed.
  • Imports data from operating systems in spreadsheets. Manipulates data to provide analysis and recommendation for statistical trends.
  • Performs periodic and scheduled report analysis for departmental activities. Maintains database on an ongoing basis.
  • Prepares summaries of department compliance and monitors quality performance for HLDS.
  • Oversees and reconciles charge capture process.

What you will need:

  • High School Required
  • Bachelors Degree Preferred
  • Two to five years related experience in healthcare sterile processing (or procedural area) environment.
  • Experience in project management and staff education.
  • Must have computer skills and experience with Excel, Word, Powerpoint and Excel applications.
  • Intimate knowledge of Sterile Processing policies and industry (AORN, AAMI, IAHSCMM, etc) best practices.
