About The Role

The goal of the cloud and enterprise agents team is to provide customers end-to-end visibility into infrastructure (cloud or native), applications, networks, the Internet, and everything in between. With ThousandEyes' unprecedented visibility into application and internet performance, we can help root cause issues that are impacting business-critical experiences and give customers confidence in their ability to solve issues and deliver stellar experiences.

What You’ll Do

We are looking for a Lead Software Engineer who is passionate about building and adding to one of the core products at ThousandEyes. The team oversees how an agent is created, configured, released, and managed through its lifecycle, which we achieve through our system of microservices. We are primarily a backend Java team, with some occasional frontend development in JavaScript. You like performant systems, we help manage 50,000+ agents running ~200,000 tests a day across multiple operating systems and various hardware. You are responsible, we create reliable and efficient systems, and support them in production. You are a team player, we are a collaborative team of six working closely together to deliver results. 

Responsibilities

  • Develop features for and maintain our fleet of microservices
  • Support our customer-facing web pages and internal support pages
  • Lead and plan cross-team projects in our roadmap
  • Regularly learn and share relevant technical knowledge within and outside of the team
  • Participate in our on-call rotation and support our production systems

Qualifications

  • 7-10+ years of experience with JVM based languages such as Java, Kotlin, Scala, etc.
  • Experience with enterprise build tools (maven, gradle, etc)
  • Knowledge and use of datastores (relational/SQL and non-relational/NoSQL)
  • Experience leading large-scale projects from start to finish
  • Excellent team collaboration and communication skills
  • An eye for proactively identifying and resolving risks and issues in production systems
  • Ability to mentor peers and other members of the team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Kafka
  • Knowledge and use of Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, and GCP)
  • Proficiency with JavaScript and/or TypeScript
  • Comfort with front-end frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue
  • Experience with network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, BGP, etc)

The successful applicant will be performing work in FedRAMP environments, and therefore, must be a U.S. Person (i.e. U.S. citizen, U.S. national, lawful permanent resident, asylee, or refugee). When available, the salary range posted for this position reflects the projected hiring range for new hire, full-time salaries in U.S. locations, not including equity or benefits. For non-sales roles the hiring ranges reflect base salary only; employees are also eligible to receive annual bonuses. Individual pay is determined by the candidate's hiring location and additional factors, including but not limited to skillset, experience, and relevant education, certifications, or training. U.S. employees have access to quality medical, dental and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with a Cisco matching contribution, short and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance and numerous wellbeing offerings. Employees receive up to twelve paid holidays per calendar year, which includes one floating holiday, plus a day off for their birthday. Employees accrue up to 20 days of Paid Time Off (PTO) each year and have access to paid time away to deal with critical or emergency issues without tapping into their PTO. Employees on sales plans earn performance-based incentive pay on top of their base salary, which is split between quota and non-quota components. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco pays at the standard rate of 1% of incentive target for each 1% revenue attainment against the quota up to 100%. Once performance exceeds 100% quota attainment, incentive rates may increase up to five times the standard rate with no cap on incentive compensation. For non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay up to 125% of target. Cisco sales plans do not have a minimum threshold of performance for sales incentive compensation to be paid.
