Position Title: Senior Aboriginal Health Worker
Employment Type: Maximum Term Full Time until March 2026
Hours per week: 38 hours per week
Position Grade: Senior Aboriginal Health Worker Year 1/2
Salary: $90,593.00 - $93,972.00 base salary per annum
Enterprise Agreement: The Named NSW (Non-Declared) Affiliated Health Organisations' Professional & Associated Staff Agreement 2022

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Aboriginal Health Worker to join our dedicated team at St Vincent’s Correctional Health located at Parklea Correctional Health Centre.

This role is crucial in providing culturally appropriate health-care support and focuses on providing better health outcomes to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The successful candidate will have a calm and composed attitude and be able to make a positive impact on the patients’ healthcare journey.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide culturally appropriate health care and support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people at Parklea Correctional Centre.
  • Develop and implement health promotion programs and initiatives that address the specific health needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Act as a liaison between the correctional facility, health services and Aboriginal communities.
  • Provide support and advocacy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the justice system.
  • Contribute to research and evaluation activities related to Aboriginal health.

Selection Criteria:

  • Be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. This is an Identified Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Position. Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and being accepted in the community as such. Exemption is claimed under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
  • Hold a minimum Certificate III in Aboriginal Primary Health Care Work (Community Care) or equivalent health training and experience or a willingness to undertake further education, as required. At St Vincent’s we are supportive of your professional development and training.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal culture, justice and health issues impacting the community.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with Aboriginal communities, providing support and advocacy for Aboriginal patients, families and carers.

St Vincent’s is contracted by leading service providers MTC Australia to deliver healthcare services at Parklea Correctional Centre – a major Sydney prison with custodial patients. We’ve established St Vincent’s Correctional Health because of the unique difference correctional health professionals can make.
