Guidehouse is searching for a project manager for software development in a biomedical research environment at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This opportunity is a full-time position with Guidehouse and based in Rockville, MD with opportunity for on-site or remote work.  
The project manager will work within a multidisciplinary team to develop, maintain, and promote a variety of publicly available web and mobile applications. The role will serve as an integral member of a team consisting of informatics scientists, data architects, IT personnel, and scientific researchers. The role will support the project development team in keeping with the NIAID Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). The role will involve coordination between system users, researchers, subject matter experts, and software development team members. The role will assist with planning and organizing project activities, including tracking and validating deliverables, planning and adjusting timelines, and performing other administrative management duties under the direction of federal program managers.

What You Will Do:

  • Liaising with project partners for both ongoing and prospective projects to capture and summarize user feedback and feature development requests.
  • Organizing focus groups and training and outreach efforts.
  • Preparing project plans, including resource estimates and schedules for presentation to stakeholders, including those for Enterprise Lifecycle (EPLC) stage gate reviews; this includes capturing measures to comply with enterprise security policies and ensuring their implementation.
  • Designing, testing, and supporting end-user documentation.
  • Helping to run development sprints, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, sprint retrospectives, and regular reporting.
  • Proactively identify changes in work scope and ensure appropriate planning measures are taken with internal and external clients to reassess, renegotiate, and amend the scope of work responsibilities, proposals, contracts, and budgets.
  • Recording, tracking, and measuring team, program, and project metrics; tracking milestones and timelines across projects to ensure the completion of deliverables and adherence to timelines.
  • Analyzing and resolving issues that could jeopardize performance and/or the ability to meet agreed-upon milestones and deliverables.
  • Assigning and tracking contractor work goals, maintaining acceptable time commitments and quality expectations.
  • Maintaining compliance with program and project configuration management needs.
  • Researching tools in the marketplace and evaluation for inclusion in the project.
  • Providing feedback on usability/user experience.
  • Implementing operational improvements approved by senior management.


What You Will Need:

  • Masters Degree with minimum four (4) years of experience.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of software development and project management methodologies, including agile/SCRUM.
  • 2+ years of experience managing bioinformatics projects; prior experience with project management duties that include responsibilities for a 5-10 member team; and demonstrated experience with the activities described in the duties above.
  • 2+ years of experience coordinating with research scientists and clinicians; coordination activities could include gathering requirements, organizing focus groups, and developing communication strategies, policies, SOPs, and/or user support documents.
  • Experience developing project documentation for senior management and development teams, organizing and facilitating site meetings, and preparing and distributing meeting minutes to all relevant parties.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills to a wide variety of audiences; Proficiency with MS Office applications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of privacy and security policies and implementations related to healthcare systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to work independently and to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.


What Would Be Nice To Have:

  • PhD or equivalent in a scientific or technical field

The annual salary range for this position is $100,200.00-$150,200.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
