What you will do

Johnson Controls is seeking a passionate leader to manage the Quality and Product Regulatory Compliance operations for our broad portfolio of control products used in Building Automation, HVAC and Commercial Refrigeration systems. You will manage a small team that works closely with product engineering teams and other cross functional colleagues globally to ensure our products meet and maintain our quality standards and maintain compliant with regulatory standards. This position is onsite at our HQ facility located in Glendale, WI. Candidates must be commuting distance, or able to relocate.


How you will do it

  • Manage the quality systems and processes for the product team, being the evangelist, role model and governor to reinforce adherence to our Quality Policies & Processes

  • Ensure quality requirements are properly accounted for in product development projects

  • Ensure teams are following rigorous quality practices such as such as FMEAs, DFMA’s, 8D reviews. Statistical data analysis etc. 

  • Monitor product quality data to proactively identify and manage issues

  • Identify and launch continuous improvement initiatives to drive quality improvements

  • Ensure Product Returns, Quality and Warranty data is analyzed, reported and actioned appropriately and manage a system to track issues through resolution

  • Train and mentor others in Quality disciplines

  • Maintain a system of monitoring product compliance status and expiring certifications to ensure all active products remain compliant with regulatory standards and ensuring re-certifications are completed before expiration. (Safety, EMC, environmental and other)

  • Ensure regulatory requirements are properly accounted for in product development projects

  • Stay cognizant of changes and trends in the regulatory landscape to proactively influence product roadmaps and strategies

  • Work with the global product development teams and agency representatives to interpret applicable standards and regulations

  • Provide regular reports on compliance status and current issues

  • Manage a system to manage our regulatory compliance records 

  • Maintain relationships with regulatory test agencies (UL, FCC, etc.) that we use to test and certify our products

  • Maintain UL DAP certification for our internal Compliance Lab  

  • Review and approve required declarations of conformity

  • Partner with engineering peers to mentor, coach and provide technical training and assistance to engineering and other staff as required to maintain an effective knowledge base of regulatory compliance and application of standards

What you will need
Required

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering

  • 10+ years of experience with at least 6 years experience specifically in the Quality and Regulatory Compliance related domains

  • Knowledge of safety agency (UL, CSA, Intertek, etc.) operations, requirements and compliance testing

  • Knowledge of engineering fundamentals, product development and manufacturing processes

  • Knowledge for applying robust practices such as FMEAs, DFMA’s, 8D reviews. Statistical data analysis etc. 

  • Experience interacting with product safety and governmental agencies, navigating certification processes and managing certifications and technical file records.

  • Understanding of world-wide product compliance and registration processes

  • Experience leading and/or managing a team, with an emphasis on coaching and training
