BASIC FUNCTION
The Maintenance Custodian Team Lead, 2nd Shift is responsible for performing custodial, sanitation, light maintenance, safety, and campus support functions while providing operational leadership and coordination for second shift Facilities operations. This position serves as a working lead role that assists with workflow coordination, operational continuity, communication, and maintaining campus cleanliness, safety, and readiness standards during second shift operations.
This position does not include direct supervisory responsibilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide day-to-day operational leadership and support for second shift Facilities operations.
  • Assist in coordinating second shift workflow, priorities, and campus operational needs.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, communication, and consistent operational standards.
  • Report operational concerns, deficiencies, and facility needs to Facilities leadership.
  • Assist with training and onboarding of Facilities staff as directed.
  • Support continuity of operations between first, second, and third shifts.
  • Clean and maintain assigned areas, equipment, and campus facilities.
  • Clean floors, ramps, and stairs by sweeping, wet mopping, dust mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.
  • Service, clean, and supply restrooms, classrooms, labs, offices, and common spaces.
  • Gather and remove trash, recycling, and waste materials, including biohazardous materials.
  • Clean and polish fixtures, windows, glass partitions, mirrors, furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
  • Mix cleaning solutions according to manufacturer specifications and safety requirements.
  • Complete assigned work orders in a timely manner, including accurate updates within the work order management system.
  • Perform minor maintenance repairs, painting, and general building support tasks as assigned.
  • Perform carpet cleaning and upholstery cleaning.
  • Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.
  • Load, unload, move, and deliver furniture, equipment, materials, and supplies as directed.
  • Perform shipping, receiving, and delivery duties as assigned.
  • Operate custodial, maintenance, and grounds equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Perform first-echelon maintenance on equipment.
  • Assist with setup and teardown for campus events and activities.
  • Assist with seasonal exterior operations including snow and ice response, grounds support, and debris removal.
  • Open, secure, and monitor campus buildings and facilities as assigned.
  • Alert appropriate personnel to adverse weather conditions, building system issues, safety concerns, and intrusion alarms.
  • Lead initial public safety and operational response efforts during after-hours campus operations, including emergencies, alarms, weather incidents, facility issues, and urgent campus situations until appropriate personnel or emergency responders arrive.
  • Assist students, faculty, staff, and visitors with directional, security, and safety information.
  • Assist in responding to urgent operational and campus needs during second shift hours.
  • Climb ladders and work at heights above ground level as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Proficient English verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer literacy and ability to utilize required software systems.
  • Ability to manage time, prioritize work, and coordinate multiple operational tasks.
  • Knowledge of custodial procedures, cleaning equipment, and maintenance practices.
  • Ability to follow safe work practices involving biohazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, and hazardous waste.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 70 pounds.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two years of custodial, maintenance, grounds, or Facilities operations experience preferred.
  • Leadership or team coordination experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet insurability requirements under College insurance guidelines.
