The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is currently seeking a Credit Risk Management co-op student/intern for the Summer 2025 work term (May to August) to support the credit risk rating process for BCI’s private investment portfolios, including Private Equity, Infrastructure & Renewable Resources, and Private Debt.

The Credit Risk Management co-op/intern will work within our Investment Strategy & Risk department. This is a great opportunity for you to learn and apply your knowledge to support the Credit Risk team by performing fundamental credit rating analysis for a range of private investments.

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

The co-op will report to the Senior Analyst, Credit Risk Management and will work closely with other members of the Credit Risk team.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Lead the development of a credit risk database using SQL by designing/performing various stages of the project, including data collection, data cleansing, data categorization, data organization, and database creation

  • Ensure that the credit risk database enables efficient and seamless access to asset-level information, such as historical adjusted financials, credit rating evolution, rating components tracking, and other relevant data

  • Support credit surveillance of BCI’s private investment portfolios, including gathering and summarizing news from various sources and monitoring credit spreads/stock prices

  • Support credit team members in preparing credit risk rating reports by inputting financial statement data, conducting peer analysis, conducting industry research, and preparing supporting schedules

  • Assist in developing and preparing credit risk dashboards and presentations

  • Support process improvement initiatives

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Sound knowledge of SQL databases proven by academic/professional experience

  • Advanced Excel skills

  • An ability to independently gather information and apply judgment to arrive at a conclusion

  • High accuracy and attention to detail while maintaining deadlines

  • A passion for debt capital markets and the financial industry

  • Knowledge of financial statements analysis through coursework or relevant work experience is preferred but not required

  • Familiarity with S&P Capital IQ and Bloomberg is an asset

  • Mid Office: $2,260.00 gross bi-weekly + vacation leave paid based on 6% of salary

  • Travel: if coming to Victoria for this work term, BCI will provide a fixed-rate travel allowance based on your location

  • All co-ops/internships will need to be completed in person at our Victoria office with the option to work one day per week from home. Please note that some positions are not eligible for hybrid work.
