Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Flight Test Technician 3 or 4 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Flight Test organization. This role is located in Mojave, CA. This position is for 1st shift with a rotating 2nd shift operation with recurring weekend shift coverage and support, however you must be willing to support all shifts where needed.

In this role as a Flight Test Technician you will perform production and flight line testing and maintenance.  You will support and perform flight operations like pre- and post- flight inspections, refueling operations, aircraft towing and jacking.  

Overall, we'll need your ability to interpret and use drawings and engineering documents to repair, maintain, or modify complex systems.  You can also expect to work from electronic data, blueprints, sketches, engineering drawings, technical orders, engineering orders, schematics, block diagrams and other technical documents on mechanical, hydraulic, power plant, and other structures.  Stemming from this, your strong communicative skills of professionalism and tact is required with contact between NG support groups as well as outside customers and organizations with significant importance.  Please note that this position may require domestic travel up to 10% of the time.

The primary job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Performs modifications and adjustments, as necessary.

  • Performs duties / functions of test personnel in area(s) of assignment. 

  • Perform repairs, modifications, installations, and test mechanical systems.  

  • Determines and performs the sequence for installing, removing, maintaining, repairing critical components / systems working with engineering.

  • Constructs, troubleshoots, calibrates, adjusts, tests, and maintains various types of complex equipment, components, devices, or systems. 

  • Notifies lead personnel or supervision of any / all malfunctions, defects and damages to equipment, material, and product. 

  • Checks work for completeness and accuracy.

You must be willing to work any shift depending on the business needs:  4x10 schedule (Mon-Thurs) 1st shift; 4x10 (Mon-Thurs) 2nd shift; 3x10 schedule Fri, Sat, Sun) 2nd shift; 3x10 schedule (Fri, Sat, Sun) 1st shift

Basic Qualifications: (This position may be filled as either a Level 3 or Level 4 Flight Test Technician, based on qualifications listed below.)

  • Level 3 Flight Test Technician: High School Diploma, A&P license required, and 4 years aircraft maintenance experience.

  • Level 4 Flight Test Technician: High School Diploma, A&P License Required, and 6 years aircraft maintenance experience. 

All levels require:

  • Must have an active DoD Secret or higher clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).

  • Must have ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs

  • Must have a current FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) License

  • Must have the physical ability to lift 30 Lbs. 

  • Must have experience with wire harness building and repair. 

  • Must have experience working with structures, drilling, riveting. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with flight test operations. 

  • Experience with operating flight line ground equipment.

  • Serves as a resource to others in the resolution of problems and issues should they arise.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision to deliver on key dates and commitments.

  • The ability to assist in orienting, training, assigning, and checking work of lower-level employees

  • Experience with FAA regulations, MES, Team Center, Prep Items, and possess the ability to read and locate technical data including aircraft manuals and drawings.

  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills

Salary Range: $62,900.00 - $104,900.00Salary Range 2: $74,900.00 - $124,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
