Job Description

Our Hardware interns work with a team of engineers and industry professionals to develop and test Rockwell hardware and optimize industrial operations. You will have the opportunity to be a significant contributor, while getting comprehensive exposure to the business structure of Rockwell Automation and how we are helping our customers bring the Connected Enterprise to life. Our hardware roles fall into 2 categories 

  • Mechanical Development: Designing and testing customized customer orders. Participate in testing (high current, environmental, life testing), design, automation, and technical documentation. Working with circuit breakers, drives, transformers, relays and more. Work alongside multiple teams like power, firmware and software engineers 
     

  • Electrical Development: Research new or replacement technologies and components, assist in circuit design and component selection, develop test requirements and execute hardware verification test plans for board level functional testing, EMC validation, Certification Agency compliance (UL, ATEX, IECEX), and Functional Safety (IEC 61508). Perform programming, analysis, and troubleshooting of electronic hardware prototypes. Contribute to associated product design documentation and test reports.

Basic Qualifications:  

  • Must be pursuing a bachelor’s or advanced degree from an accredited college or university.  

  • Legal authorization to work in the US is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or similar from an accredited college or university.  

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale

  • Preference given to students met on campus, at a national recruiting event, through a Rockwell Automation-hosted event or a targeted recruiting campaign.

  • Experience with Power Electronics or motors 

  • Experience with design capture tools  

  • Be able to work with schematic drawings 

  • Basic knowledge of circuit theory and operation, including microprocessors, digital logic devices, analog and/or DC-power conversion, programmable devices (CPLDs, FPGAs) 

  • Basic programming (C++, C#, Java, Python or JavaScript) 

  • Familiarity with tools such as CAD, Creoparametic, ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), 3D Modeling, SAP, Matlab 

  • Experience with industrial automation environments including PLC or drives programming 

  • Experience using Agile methodology
