OpenShift Container Platform is Red Hat’s premier container initiative which oversees multiple product lines. It includes Red Hat CoreOS, a Linux based operating system optimized for containers, and OpenShift, an orchestration PaaS framework based on Kubernetes. As an engineer on this effort you will be expected to work in an Agile environment to help keep our products and services competitive with the ever changing container landscape.  

What you will do

  • Develop features and bug fixes in Kubernetes and OpenShift within an agile team
  • Ensure that there are test plans for the code you create and that documentation is correct
  • Become responsible for our product quality, participate in peer code reviews, continuous integration and delivery, respond to security threats
  • Act as a point of escalation for customer and internal teams
  • Participate in architectural discussions of system designs, programming interfaces, and inter-dependencies of control plane, operators, CI, etc., both in the Kuberntes upstream communities and the OpenShift project
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams on integrations
  • Ability to thrive in a rapidly changing environment

What you will bring

  • Good understanding of Linux operating system
  • Knowledge of working with Go programming language, Python scripting is a big plus
  • Experience building and deploying container-based applications
  • Understanding Kubernetes architecture
  • Understanding of how Open Source and Free Software communities work
  • A capacity for learning and innovative thinking
  • Experience with development for public cloud services (AWS, GCE, Azure) is a plus
  • Experience troubleshooting complex issues in distributed systems
  • Previous contributions to open source projects or being an open source maintainer is a big plus
  • Experience in developing client tools and controllers using Kubernetes libraries is a plus
  • Involvement in a Kubernetes or Kubernetes SIG (Special Interest Group) project is beneficial
