Job Description

As main member of tooling engineering team in AP, and Senior Tooling Engineer - Plastic is responsible for planning, costing new plastic mold tooling and processes. Under general direction of the functional manager, independently solves problems and implements solutions for new plastic injection mold tooling and molding process. You will Work with Fabrication team on the replacement tooling projects.

This is an onsite position, and you will report to MANAGER, MANUFACTURING ENGINEERING, CHINA.

Main Responsibilities (At Least 6 major responsibilities need to be listed out)

  • Promote supplier and internal process improvements in areas of manufacturing technology and tooling performance to improve cost, quality, and delivery.
  • Provide technical assistance involving suppliers consolidation, localization, and risk mitigation efforts.
  • Resolve part design and manufacturability issues that cause quality defects
  • Guide standardization of part designs, materials, and process
  • Guide compliance to ensure RA AP plants, BU and external suppliers have adequate technical capabilities, knowledge, and resources through technical assessments
  • Manage RA plants in AP owned tooling at suppliers by proactive capital planning through data collection and a process for evaluation, justification and validation of capital spend
  • Road mapping future requirements for part designs, tooling, and processing

Main COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS

Job related competencies

Functional:

  • Work with Project Manager or fabrication team on project arrangement deliverables, spec requirements and financial costing
  • Manage and procure NPI proto-type/tool builds for NPI projects to meet project milestones
  • Work with other engineering functions / resources to qualify part for manufacturability
  • Develop part & system cost estimates, proposals; identify alternatives and their tradeoffs
  • Define, plan, and implement manufacturing requirements for injection molded parts
  • Demonstrated experience with software applications, Pro/ENGINEER.
  • Demonstrated advance knowledge of tooling technology, applications and process
  • Demonstrated experience in project management for planning, assessing, and managing project resources

Interpersonal:

  • Support processes, workloads, and structure of organization required
  • Responsible for initiation, ongoing communication and outcome of project deliverables of sub functions and external suppliers
  • High degree of collaboration with internal and external resources and partners to the department
  • Moderate interaction across management levels

Management:

  • Desired job outcomes are not predictable; tasks involve a fair degree of
  • May develop / implement plans having high degree of risk to be communicated back to fabrication team in the states
  • Conduct tasks following applicable Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Regulations (State/Federal Laws, ISO9001, ISO14000) and Rockwell Automation procedures

Business:

  • May be involved in the development of manufacturing strategies that support larger programs
  • Ensure familiarity with Procedures Relating to Standards of Business Conduct, and maintain full compliance with the letter and spirit of such procedures

Other / Miscellaneous:

  • Work schedule likely to vary with project activity, projects

Minimal to moderate domestic & international travel requirements

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS / WORK EXPERIENCE

(Education, qualifications and experience requirements an employee must have)

  • B.S. in Mechanical, molding fabrication or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 8 years' experience tooling fabrication area, it is preferable of tooling (plastic molding process) design experience.
  • Experience with Auto-CAD and Pro-E
  • Experience with Mold flow analysis
