JOB TITLE: Banquet Houseperson

DEPARTMENT: Food & Beverage

FACILITY: Long Beach Convention Center

REPORTS TO: Director of Operations

FLSA: Hourly Non-Exempt

STATUS: Part Time

Hourly Rate: $16

POSITION SUMMARY

The Banquet Houseperson's primary role is to provide support to service personnel.

Job Duties Include:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in the setup, operation, and breakdown of banquet and catering events.
  • Assist in food and beverage service preparation, including supplying and stocking the event space.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of all storage areas.
  • Manage the safety and security of catering equipment and inventory at all times.
  • Set tables with linens, china, glassware, and flatware.
  • Prepare water, coffee, and other beverage services; prepare all condiments and accompaniments for services.
  • Maintain service ware and equipment according to established procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and deemed necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of the food service industry.
  • Completion of Break Attendant Training and testing.
  • Excellent skills in guest services and catering.
  • Must have a pleasant disposition and neat appearance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees, guests, and show management.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to review, communicate, and provide special meal or service requests.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age to serve alcohol.
  • Ability to take directions and effectively perform the work.
  • Must be able to read and understand safety rules and regulations.
  • Completion of Houseperson Training and testing.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, in addition to normal business hours.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Experience as a banquet server or completion of break attendant training.
  • Ability to follow directions and effectively perform assigned banquet server duties.
  • Must have a California Food Handler certificate..

  • Positive, customer service-oriented attitude at all times.
  • Strong knowledge of sanitary practices.
  • Maintains proper grooming and dress code standards.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Cooperative and able to work well with a team.
  • Attention to detail.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

  • Regularly required to move around the facility; stand for long hours during events; talk and hear.
  • May require work inside or outside of the building, depending on events.
  • Requires stooping and lifting.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for the duration of the shift.
  • Must be able to safely push, pull, carry, and lift up to 25 pounds.
